Italian football journalist, Fabrizio Romano spoke on Liverpool link with PSG star Kylian Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland. He also declares that Real Madrid will go for one of them the next summer.
Both teams won their respective league titles last season. Quite obviously, they felt reluctant to buy any players to make changes to their winning squad. That is also because finances are hit due to the pandemic.
However, Liverpool did secure the signing of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern and Diego Jota from Wolves. While Real Madrid only secures youngster Reinier but sent him on loan to Dortmund subsequently.
But their high-spending nature is set to emerge next year once the situation betters. The continued need for supremacy will help them land some current superstars of world football.
Romano says Real Madrid will move for a top star
Speaking on the Blood Red Podcast, Romano said, “Next summer, I expect Real Madrid to go for a top star. I don’t know if Mbappe or Haaland [is who they want] but they will go for a top star.
It is clear that Real Madrid would prefer Haaland’s transfer rather than Mbappe. The Norway striker will be a long term replacement of Karim Benzema. This can open the door for Liverpool to swoop for the PSG star.
“They are preparing their attempt to sign him. But it won’t be easy. The president of PSG is trying to get Mbappe to sign a new contract and it won’t be easy [to get Mbappe out of PSG], ” Romano said.
Real Madrid offloaded James Rodriguez, Gareth Bale, Achraf Hakimi and Sergio Reguilon to pave the way for a top signing. It is not known whether it’s for Haaland and Mbappe but the former remains the preferred choice.
Liverpool linked with Mbappe
To be fair, it is highly unlikely that Liverpool will land Kylian Mbappe. The Premier League champions had to accumulate a lot of finances to pull off the deal. Added by the Covid crisis, it is tough.
Mbappe did speak of his intention of leaving Paris Saint Germain in 2021. The French wonder kid has won multiple leagues and cup honors at the club and also reached the Champions League final last season.
If he is serious about it then every European heavyweight will be after him next summer. He may personally want to go to Real Madrid but there will be additional pressure on him to drive the club forward.
So, Mbappe might go to Anfield in a less demanding atmosphere. Plus, Liverpool looks like a dominating team than the Los Blancos currently. But as said it will be really difficult to seal his transfer.
