Liverpool and Man United handed boost as Sabitzer drops hints

Marcel Sabitzer has dropped huge hints that will be favouring the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United. His prominent display has attracted many other clubs also and he hasn’t denied a move away in the coming summer.

Sabitzer is an Austrian midfielder who likes to play any position that involves offense. He made his professional debut for the Austrian side, Admira Wacker Modling. He spent 2 years there scoring 11 goals before moving to another Austrian side Rapid Wien.

The striker improved a lot there because of which he attracted attention from the German side, RB Leipzig. He signed a 4-year contract there and was soon loaned out back to Austria to their sister club, RB Salzburg.

After having an incredible spell, where he scored 27 goals in 51 games, he returned to his club with a greater role awaiting for him. He helped his team get promoted from the second division during his first season with them. It was also a terrific debut season for the club as they finished runners-up in the Bundesliga.

Manchester United and Liverpool are interested in signing Marcel Sabitzer

Since then they have been in the top-4 with only one season been dropped to 6th. Sabitzer was equally important in the success and he has scored 50 goals so far. His consistency and loyalty have earned him the armband for the ongoing season.

RB Leipzig are currently 2nd in the Bundesliga with only 4 points separating them from the leaders Bayern Munich. They have displayed the best defensive side this season and have conceded the least goals. The former Champions League semi-finalists didn’t have luck this year as they were comfortably knocked out in the round of 16 by Liverpool.

Will Liverpool and Manchester United pounce on the hints dropped by Sabitzer?

Marcel Sabitzer will be running out of contract in 2022

Marcel Sabitzer has been famous for the attacking demonstration he displays. He has excelled in any position that involves attacking. However, Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann has started experimenting with him by bringing him back to the defensive midfielder’s position.

“I enjoyed the position. The new position also changed my game again. In the centre, you will receive the ball more and you have to make faster decisions. However, I still have the urge to create something offensively.” – Marcel Sabitzer when asked about his new role translated by Sport Witness.

The 27-year-old Austrian current link with the club expires in 2022. The club has been trying to renew his contract but it has been a failure so far. This has prompted one to think if he is waiting for a move away from the club. Sabitzer had mentioned that it is his dream to play in the Premier League. And given his current development and form, there are plenty of clubs that feels the same.

Tottenham Hotspur were the long admirers of the player, but his recent reply to a question didn’t mention them anywhere. When asked if he would play for traditional clubs like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Liverpool or Manchester United, he replied quite plainly saying that he can imagine it a lot.

United can gain a lot if they land him as Martial has been misfiring a lot. Similarly, Liverpool also won’t drop a chance to land the experienced player. Leipzig will also look to sell him this summer rather than for free if contract renewal fails.

However, this looks very thin as they are already set to lose their top players. Upamecano will be joining Bayern, and Konate and Nkunku are linked for a potential move. Losing another star player would be difficult to digest.
