Manchester United could lose a few key players this summer with contracts running out and one of them has an option to join either City or Liverpool.
Juan Mata’s Manchester United future is up the air. The Spaniard has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford as his contract expires this summer.
Now, his father has come out and revealed that No.8 has been offered a new deal by the Red Devils. But he has also admitted that his son has other options on the table including the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
“Liverpool and City not appealing for Mata”
“Manchester United have offered to renew us, we are very happy,” Mata told Cadena SER.”But there are proposals from Champions League teams. Spain? Maybe. But today is not the day to talk, it is not yet decided.” The player himself had said that “this is not the time to talk” when asked about his future.
He also confirmed that Mata would not join Guardiola at United’s rivals Manchester City, nor would he sign for Liverpool.”City? It would not be the ideal option. There are two options that do not [appeal]: Liverpool and City. We have to respect the Manchester United fans, he is held very dear here.”
Mata talks Barcelona ’99 ahead of Champions League tie
Juan Mata says that Ole Gunnar Solskajer will inspire them to perform well against Barcelona in the Champions League. “I’m sure [Solskjaer] will do in the next days,” Mata suggests. “We will have in our minds his image, celebrating that goal and Sir Alex Ferguson celebrating. I was young and some of my teammates were probably not watching TV at that time!”
“It was a fantastic memory for a lot of people that love Manchester United in that stadium. For himself also, scoring that goal. So I’m sure he will speak about it, his most important goal. We will try to make another great night for Manchester United fans and create new and very good memories for them.”
Juan Mata is an incredible human being and a model professional. Despite having offers from top European clubs, the Spaniard has decided to keep them under the wraps and putting the interests of the club ahead of his. While Mata’s future might not be at Old Trafford, his name will fondly be remembered by every United fan for years to come.
