With the Barcelona star’s future in serious doubt, Lionel Messi has revealed just how the club can replace him and it’s a surprising decision.
Despite losing Neymar during the summer transfer window, Lionel Messi and company have still managed to somehow dominate the game. With Barcelona still unbeaten in the La Liga, in the Copa Del Rey finals and have one foot in the Champions League semi-finals, it would be an overstatement to say that they have struggled to cope without the Brazilian. But despite that the Catalan giants still need to bring in reinforcements with at least two first team stars futures in doubt.
Liverpool shelling out a world record fee for Virgil Van Dijk during the winter transfer window has been the lynchpin that could eventually lead to Barcelona losing Samuel Umtiti. The Frenchman has a comparatively paltry release clause of 60 million and with Manchester United and Real Madrid seriously chasing after him; things could get interesting during the summer window next season.
Meanwhile, Barcelona also needs a replacement for the irreplaceable Andres Iniesta, with the veteran playmaker on his way out of the club. The 2010 World Cup winner has been a mainstay in the Barcelona side since his debut for the club and while Barcelona did spend heavily on both Philippe Coutinho and Arthur Melo, the club is looking for replacements.
But according to reports from Don Balon, superstar Lionel Messi knows exactly how to replace the 33-year-old Spaniard at the club. The Argentine wants Denis Suarez and Carles Alena to step up and help with Iniesta’s transition away from the club. The report further adds that Messi rates both the 24-year-old Suarez and the 20-year-old Alena very highly and wants the duo to play more for Barcelona.
While Suarez has already made 57 appearances for the Catalan giants since his arrival from Villarreal in July of 2016, Carles Alena only made his debut this season. The 20-year-old has flourished in the Barcelona B team scoring 13 goals (with 9 this season) and producing a further 13 assists in 74 appearances for the club.
La Masia has not been at it’s very best at producing players off late, they have certainly found a gem in Carles Alena. The 20-year-old is the best possible replacement that Barcelona has for Andres Iniesta within the club at the moment but Denis Suarez is not someone who can do that. The 24-year-old has been at Camp Nou for two seasons and is yet to establish himself as a first-team player.
