John Stones is enjoying a great second season at Manchester City after his difficult start to a life at Etihad Stadium. He has impressed a lot of people with his form this season. Former City defender Joleon Lescott in one of them. John Stones came to City last season where Guardiola was building a team which can compete at highest level. His record-breaking £47.5 million transfer fee and under-par performances meant he was always on the radar of critics. Stones was blamed for being too much out of position as City ended up without any trophies last season. The Three Lions’ defender has put the last season behind him and has been in a stellar form this season. He has started 17 games in all competition and has been an integral part of Pep’s dominating side.

Stone is great at the back
Lescott has called Stones ‘the best’ as he thinks the youngster offers something extra in comparison to other defenders. Former England defender also said it is wrong to compare Stones with Kompany.
“Stones can obviously defend but not everyone is a Vincent Kompany and there aren’t many defenders who will be as good as Vinny in one-on-ones, in the air and so on.” He said while talking to City’s official website.
“Vinny has his own style – I had a different style when I played alongside him, hence the reason we probably worked so well together.
“So, while John isn’t that style of defender, he can defend as well as most and then he has that little bit of something extra.”

Bright future ahead
Stones, who dons the same jersey number as that of Lescott was also appreciated for his composure at the back and his superb form this season.
“He’ll do his job and defend well, but there will be moments when he does something special and you’ll just go ‘ah, that’s why he’s regarded as the best.”
“He doesn’t seem to get fazed by anything and always seems calm and he never hides – he’s got everything and he’ll get to wherever he wants to get because we have to remember he’s still only 23.”
“I’ve been really impressed by him, especially this season where he seems to be going from strength to strength.”

Cityzens are unbeaten in all competitions this season. They comfortably sit in the first position in EPL, 8 points ahead of Man Utd and Spurs. John Stones is a quality defender. His form this season is a proof of that. He has shrugged the price tag pressure this season and has started fresh. The defender does make a few mistakes sometimes but as Lescott said, he is just 23. He has a bright future ahead of both City and England. Stones form will be very important for Pep this season. As the Spaniard looks to win the EPL and conquer the Europe for the very first time for Manchester City.
