A unique angle of the goal from Leo Messi in the Copa Del Rey 2021 Final against Athletic Club Bilbao has emerged.
Scoring absolutely insane goals have become a ritual for Leo Messi. He certainly did start off at a young age, scoring a goal like that of Argentine legend Maradona against Getafe back in 2006. But nobody expected him to reach the levels he is at today.
Saturday’s cup final against Athletic Bilbao was indeed a huge one. Besides winning their first trophy this season, it also ended Barcelona’s trophy drought that lasted 720 days. But something else has been catching the eye of the fans lately.
Messi’s first goal of the night came after Griezmann and De Jong had put Barca ahead by 2 goals. While his goal looked beautifully worked on camera, a new angle of the same video has emerged. And quite frankly, it makes Messi’s goal all the more stunning.
A goal to remember for Lionel Messi
Late in the second half, Messi combined with De Jong and Dest to create a dazzling move that tore through a resolute Bilbao defence. The new angle of the video was captured by a camera positioned behind the Bilbao goal. And it looks absolutely stunning.
Like he often does, Messi starts and finishes the move. Picking up the ball in the defensive half, Messi skips past a challenge by Garcia. He lays it to the American Sergino Dest on the right flank. Dest returns it to Messi who seems to be expecting the rondo.
A quick exchange of passes with Dutch Medio De Jong follows. The movement is so smooth that Leo does not break his stride even for once. The end of the exchange finds him positioned in the penalty box facing a defender
A drop of the shoulder does the trick but the net is still on a narrow-angle. That does not seem to bother Leo though. A measured tap with his left and the ball rolls up in the net.
The new angle shows seamless movement and passing football at its best. It’s almost as if one is watching Pep Guardiola’s Barca in action. In short, art personified.
Absolutely exquisite and liquid football and this camera angle captures it entirely.
A trophy that signal the dawan of a new era
Barcelona wins the game 4-0 after Messi adds another one in quick succession to his first one. They dominated the game from the very beginning. Despite a goalless first half, they showed signs of promise.
The Copa Del Rey was Barcelona’s first honor since they last won the la Liga in 2018-19. It was also Koeman’s first trophy as the manager. However, this was more than just a trophy. It is the promise of a new era at the club.
An era led by the likes of Pedri, Oscar, Araujo, Fati, Ilaix. An era that promises to bring back the glory days to the Catalan club. After Saturday’s final, Barca fans around the world can certainly expect better days ahead
