Maurizio Sarri is now the manager of Italian club Lazio. The Biancocelesti have finally managed to put their managerial troubles at rest. Sarri is a vastly experienced manager who is bound to bring success to this historic club.
Maurizio Sarri’s last stint with a club was with Italian giants Juventus. However, that chapter of his career didn’t go according to plan as he was sacked within a year. He was succeeded by Andrea Pirlo.
And before Juventus, Sarri was in charge of Chelsea wherein he won the UEFA Europa League. But now his full focus will be on improving the Lazio squad. The club will have to keep in mind their budget before pursuing after players.
One area wherein Lazio will have to improve considerably is their defence. They are currently actively pursuing to include a full back in their ranks. Amongst the potential candidates are players from Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, and Juventus.
Lazio manager Sarri wants to sign one of the three this summer
1) Davide Zappacosta (Chelsea)
The first player on the list is Davide Zappacosta of Chelsea. He’s a player who has played under Maurizio Sarri before and that might be useful. Davide Zappacosta currently just finished his loan at Genoa. However, it’s unlikely he will be in the Chelsea squad.
Thomas Tuchel is almost certain to look for other options. Hence it would make sense to get Zappacosta for Lazio. He’s a proven Italian full-back who has experience in Serie A as well.
But another point that we must keep in mind is that even during his stint at Chelsea, Sarri hardly used Zappacosta. He only featured in 17 appearances under Maurizio Sarri and 10 of them, came in the UEFA Europa League.
2) Sime Vrasljko (Atletico Madrid)
With Maurizio Sarri on board, it’s unlikely that Lazio will keep playing three defenders at the back. The manager will be shifting to a back four almost certainly. This means that Lazio will need good-quality fullbacks.
One such player can be Sime Vrasljko of Atletico Madrid. Vrasljko has hardly been used by Diego Simeone this season. He had made only ten appearances all season with the La Liga Champions.
He will be a free agent next season and Atletico Madrid could be looking to offload him in a permanent transfer. Although he hasn’t played a lot of games this season, his experience can still be useful.
3) Mattia De Sciglio (Juventus)
Mattia De Sciglio can also be a quality signing for Lazio. He also has been abandoned by the parent club Juventus and spent this season on loan at Olympique Lyonnais. However, he was a major player for Lyon this season.
He amassed over 34 appearances for them this year and was a mainstay in the backline. Lazio could benefit heavily with him as not only can he alternate between the two fullback position but can also play as a center-back.
