The ex-Chelsea player and manager, Frank Lampard revealed in his interview that he wanted to sign West Ham’s midfielder, Declan Rice during his time. This was also Frank’s first interview after he was sacked in January.
Lampard is one of the most known names in the history of football. He is a legend for his club as well as for his country. He started his career at West Ham, where his father also used to play. His time with The Hammers had shown that he was meant for greatness. His highest appearances were over once he signed for Chelsea in 2001.
Stamford Bridge became his new home as he spent more than a decade with The Blues. From winning the Premier League to winning the Champions League and everything in between, Lampard has been decorated with 13 trophies. He made more than 600 appearances at Chelsea and scored 211 goals in the process.
He later joined Manchester City where he played for a year. While playing for The Cityzens, he completed 600 Premier League appearances, making him the 2nd player after Ryan Giggs to do so. He ended his playing career in the U.S. while playing for the MLS side New York City.
Frank Lampard then returned as a manager when he got his first managerial duty for the Championship club, Derby County in 2018. It was a pleasing debut for him as he led his side to the finals of the Championship playoffs.
Although he had signed a 3-year contract, Chelsea’s vacant position fascinated him. A year after his time at Derby, he was appointed as Chelsea’s manager. Chelsea are currently in great form. They are in contention for the top-4 spot and have one foot set in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Lampard admitted that he tried to sign Declan Rice at Chelsea
Lampard had a pretty much okay first season. After splashing £200 million at the start of this season, they were off to a great start having topped the League table and cruising in the Champions League. However, after grabbing only 2 wins and losing 5 out of 8 matches at the start of this year, he was sacked and replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz, and Edouard Mendy were the players he spent the money on. Despite landing these world-class players, it was said that Lampard had his eyes set on yet another player.
Declan Rice who is one of the most reputed midfielders in the Premier League was a target for Lampard. If he was to get him meant that the club would have had to splash another £100 million as per West Ham’s demands.
“We are fortunate to have him in England, West Ham are fortunate to have him. He’s a leader and it is clear that he’s destined for great things. I have probably given it away with how I spoke about him but I think it’s common knowledge that I was a big fan of his.
It didn’t happen for various reasons, but we brought in a lot of players in the summer. But I was a big fan of him. For understandable reasons, West Ham knows the player that they have on their hands.” – Frank Lampard told in his interview.
Currently, Lampard is taking a break from work and is spending some time with his family. In the same interview, he also mentioned that he had got some offers. He turned down the opportunities from Bournemouth and the England U-21 side. Lampard said that he will only think of managing once he feels ready.
