Juventus are eyeing to land Chelsea midfielder Jorginho on a permanent deal with Manchester City interested in as well. The Italian giants are looking to bolster their midfield set-up, which lacks depth in their current squad. Andrea Pirlo has sights on the number of midfield players.
Meanwhile, Tuchel’s side had a recent big victory over Liverpool, who’s undergoing serious issues at the back with injuries. Amidst bringing in new signings, Klopp’s side are struggling at the moment with key defensive pair ruled out with major injury.
However, Tuchel’s style have helped Chelsea regain their momentum and go ahead for their Champions League spot. Tuchel will be hoping for a good finish to this season after taking over from Frank Lampard. The Blues travelled to Anfield to take on arch-rivals Liverpool in a Premier League clash yesterday.
Klopp fielded Fabinho and Kabak at the back as his defensive pair, while the front three were usual with Mane, Firmino, and Salah. Tuchel went with 3-4-2-1 and Timo Werner being the sole striker up front for the Londoners. Former Leipzig star operated from the left flank during Lampard’s period.
The game was level until Chelsea’s Mason Mount made a brilliant run on the counter to give his side the lead. French midfielder N’Golo Kante gave a perfect long ball to the left flank, which was pursued by Mount, and sent it back behind Allison in the bottom-right corner.
Jorginho and Kante did a terrific job in the middle allowing Werner to attack freely in the final third. The Blues are now fourth in the table with 47 points from 27 games. While the Reds have dropped down to seventh position having secured 43 points so far.
Juventus consider Chelsea star as ‘Plan B’?
According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato, Juventus are considering Jorginho as their primary alternative if they fail to secure the services of Manuel Locatelli in the summer. Pirlo is keen to land Milan academy graduate Locatelli in the upcoming summer transfer window to bolster their midfield set-up.
Locatelli is currently in a contract with Italian side Sassuolo and plays a vital role in his side. The central midfielder plays a holding game in the middle, which is a vacant slot at Juventus. Both Arthur and Bentacur are currently in an injury situation, which limits the position to McKennie, Rabiot, and Ramsey.
The club are already working on to permanently sign Weston McKennie in the summer, who is currently on loan from the German side Schalke. If Pirlo and co can lure the 23-year-old star Locatelli to Turin, the future of Juventus midfield will be in good hands.
Jorginho or Locatelli?
Juventus are having Jorginho as ‘Plan B’ as per reports, and Locatelli as their prime target. While, Chelsea are in no plans to let go of the midfielder, who was signed during Sarri’s era at Stamford Bridge. There was speculation about Jorginho leaving Blues last summer with interest from Inter.
However, Jorginho is delivering goods this term for the Blues and has scored the winning goal on a number of occasions for Chelsea. His contract runs out with Chelsea by the summer of 2023. Meanwhile, Locatelli is also under the radar of Manchester City, who can lash out big money in the transfer window.
Sassuolo star has a price-tag of €35m to €40m, which is quite a tough ask for the Italian club to pull-off. The Italian midfielder has two goals and two assists to his name this term. He will certainly be a worthy option to go for. However, the old lady will have to battle Citizens in order to win the race for Locatelli.
