Juventus open talks with Barcelona over signing injured forward as part of Pjanic deal

Juventus are interested in signing Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele on loan this summer.

Barcelona have been negotiating with Juventus over a possible swap-deal that would see Pjanic moving to the Camp Nou. Their hopes of landing the midfielder have received significant boost with the Bianconeri reportedly keen on signing Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele.

Juventus are looking to bolster their attacking options with Juan Cuadrado ageing and Federico Bernadeschi falling out-of-favor under Maurizio Sarri. The Italians however are aware of the Frenchman’s injury-record and want a loan-deal before signing him on a permanent basis.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the two clubs are already in talks over a possible swap-deal involving Pjanic. Dembele has reportedly said yes to the move and the Old Lady are evaluating the possibilities. Barcelona however are keen on including a mandatory purchase clause for the forward.

Juventus want to evaluate the player’s credentials over time before deciding on his permanent future.

Dembele has been subject to constant injuries since joining Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund for £138m in 2017. He has been able to make it to the playing field on a mere 74 occasions, scoring 19 times. The winger reportedly earns around £11m per year, despite his limited appearances on the field.

Dembele is still recovering from a muscle injury sustained in January. The Frenchman will take no further part in any of the remaining games in the club’s La Liga campaign. The 23-year-old however is still one of Europe’s most exciting prospects as far as the upcoming transfer window is concerned.

Barcelona desperately need player sales to fund the arrivals of their preferred signings Pjanic, Lautaro Martinez and Neymar. The Blaugrana are keen to get a number of high-earners off their books to ease their financial pressure amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Barcelona boss Quique Setien however still sees potential in the player and doesn’t want him to leave.

Barcelona’s first-team players have already agreed to take a 70% paycut to reduce the club’s losses during the pandemic. Quique Setien’s players however could have to take further paycuts in the near future, with the coronavirus crisis far from over.

Barcelona boss Quique Setien however is still interested in working with Dembele because of the player’s potential. Setien reportedly believes that the 23-year-old can provide a different dynamic to the Catalan attack with his pace and ambidexterity.

Barcelona chiefs however consider Dembele as a crucial bargaining in the deal for the Juventus midfielder. Juventus had earlier made Barcelona midfielder Arthur Melo their chief target in the deal. The deal however failed to capitalize with the Brazilian reportedly uninterested in the move.
