Juventus looking to swoop in for Chelsea’s Serie A target

Chelsea may lose another of their target, this time courtesy of Juventus.

The Blues have been lining up a bid for Juventus forward Gonzalo Higuain but recent reports suggest there is a new twist in the tale. Chelsea has made their interest known to the Italian side who are open to the idea of offloading Higuain. However, the Bianconeri have decided to land Chelsea a massive blow.

The Londoners are on the lookout for a new manager and have already given up the pursuit of Maurizio Sarri. However, as fate seems to have it, they are highly likely to lose another of their transfer target.

Juve planning to overlook Chelsea?

According to reports in Italy, Juventus are tracking Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi and will likely suggest a swap deal including Higuain. If things go through, then Chelsea will be completely frozen out of the equation. Having already hinted at a swap deal for Higuain-Alvaro Morata, it seems Juventus are more interested in Icardi.

Tuttosport suggests that the Old Lady are ready to move on Higuain who turned 30 recently. The Argentine was signed for a massive £75m two years ago but now the Turin based club are ready to part ways with him. Juventus boss Max Allegri however, wants an able replacement and he wants Icardi to swap places with Higuain.

The Inter Milan forward scored 29 goals in Serie A, helping Inter secure Champions League status for next season. He is 25 years old and is ready to take the next step in his career. His wife and agent Wanda Nara, is also looking to find an exit route from Inter. That is where Juventus step in.

A swap deal for Icardi/Higuain would also suit Inter Milan who will not let their star man depart easily. Although, they could be tempted by the prospect of Higuain moving to the San Siro. As things stand, that would be a win-win situation for both the Italian clubs with Chelsea the only losers in that scenario.

Nevertheless, the Blues have made contact with former PSG boss Laurent Blanc to replace Antonio Conte. It seems as they have prioritised the search for a manager before stepping into the transfer market.  That should make things easier for Juventus then.

Author’s Take

After months of speculation about Conte’s future, Chelsea has still failed to replace him while all other Premier League clubs are already making summer signings. That could possibly be a headstart for other clubs and if Juventus sign Icardi, then the Blues will lose Higuain and they will have no one but themselves to blame for it.
