Jose Mourinho is going to make changes in Manchester dressing room this summer following their below-par performance against newly promoted side Brighton.
The Portuguese tactician has given clear indication about the changes in the squad by questioning the morality of some of the player. Former Chelsea boss goes on to claim that some players are not going to “make it” to next year squad. This is the first time that Manchester United have lost to all the three newly promoted team in the same season. Mourinho, whose team can secure second place after the win against West Ham in the next fixture has been very shocked after the loss against Brighton.
Mourinho is concerned with the mentality of the players against the smaller teams. 55-year old Manchester United boss admitted that some of the players are not able to perform to the level of the club. Former Chelsea boss is also concerned with the difference in the points between his city rivals Manchester United.
“How many points separate us from Manchester City?” Mourinho said. “Not two, three or four. A lot of points.
“Some of the people we have, they have to be more consistent in their performance and we need more quality. I trust some more than others that can bridge that gap. That’s normal. I know the players. I worked with the players for a couple of years, so I know them better than anyone.”
Jose Mourinho clearly believes in some of his players and are totally convinced that some are going to make it to the squad. He further added “And of course, some of the players I am totally convinced are going to make it, some others I have good hopes that they are going to make it and some others I don’t believe they are going to make it.
In my squad, I have some players where I would like to have better than what I have. That’s basic. For me, to win against all the small teams and to lose against all the big teams — when I say ‘small’ and ‘big’, forgive my basic English, I would prefer to explain it another way — but when you lose against the small teams and you win against the big teams, it’s not right,” he said.
“When you lose against the big teams and you win against the small teams, that is also not right. I think it’s normal that during the season, you have your low moments, but in a balanced way. When you lose against all the teams that were promoted, that doesn’t smell right for me.”
Jose Mourinho consideration about the player of not having a winning mentality is quite right. It can be seen from their performance that the players lack the confidence to win and perform to the best of their capabilities when given opportunity against the smaller teams.
The Portuguese tactician is clearly eyeing to win the league title next season with Manchester United and looking the bolster his squad with players having the winning mentality.
