English wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler has picked his all-time IPL XI after the tournament got suspended this season. The explosive opener has been a vital player for Rajasthan Royals in the past seasons.
The wicket-keeper batsman has the capability to convert big score after a good start. The batsman also had a good season in India this term. However, the tournament had to be postponed due to the on-going coronavirus situation in India.
Buttler has played only for two franchisees in his six-year stint in IPL. The Englishman made his debut with Mumbai Indians in 2016 under Rohit Sharma. Later, the batsman was picked by Rajasthan Royals in the 2018 mega IPL auction.
Rajasthan-based franchise has been dependent on Buttler’s explosive start in the power-play in past seasons. Current Royals skipper Sanju Samson has also been a pillar for the franchise, but he fails to get a slot in all-time eleven of Jos Buttler.
No place for ‘Mr. IPL’ Suresh Raina
Jos Buttler’s eleven doesn’t feature one of the IPL’s consistent performers Suresh Raina. The top-order batsman has been fantastic for the Super Kings and has paved for his team’s success over the years. His absence last year was a big blow for the franchise and failed to deliver goods.
However, Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni gets a place in the eleven. Buttler idolises Dhoni for his captaincy skills and expertise in the league over the years. Dhoni has also been selected as the wicket-keeper by Jos, who himself is a wicket-keeper.
Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma gets the opening batsman slot alongside Jos in his eleven. Both the players have played together in IPL 2016 for Mumbai Indians. No wonder why, Rohit Sharma has been picked-up for the opening slot, who has been consistent for his franchise over the years.
Buttler has 1968 runs in 64 innings in IPL with an amazing strike rate of 150. Royal Challengers Bangalore duo Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers gets their place for their consistency with the bat over the years. Another unsurprising pick from Jos for Cricbuzz Plus is Kieron Pollard.
Malinga and Harbhajan Singh gets a place
Jos Buttler’s eleven includes four bowlers and Ravindra Jadeja being one of the two all-rounders in the eleven. However, Jadeja gets his place for his all-round skills in IPL especially in fielding with his bullet arms. Jadeja has taken down Buttler number of times in IPL with his off-spin.
Veteran Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh also finds himself in the eleven. The off-spinner is known for his wicket-taking capabilities. He has been successful in taking wickets at power play and crucial times. Another T20 legend Lasith Malinga is also unsurprising pick by the English batsman.
Sri Lankan pacer recently announced his retirement from franchise cricket in January. Death overs specialist Jasprit Bumrah also gets a place alongside fellow pacer Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. Bumrah’s Yorker at death and Bhuvaneshwar’s ability to swing the ball both ways is a plus.
Here’s Jos Buttler’s all-time IPL XI:
Jos Buttler, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, MS Dhoni (WK), Kieron Pollard, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga.
