The ongoing season of the IPL season has seen a number of instances when the bails have not been dislodged despite the ball hitting the stumps with substantial force. The match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Capitals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur witnessed another such incident when Joffra Archer’s full toss hit the leg stump on the full but the bails refused to come off leaving the fielding side completely shocked.
It all happened during Delhi Capitals chase in the final ball of the 16th over. Jofra Archer ran up and bowled a fast full bunger at Prithvi Shaw, who made room in order to scythe the ball over point. However, the young man could not connect and the ball kissed the bails on its way through to the wicket-keeper. A distraught Archer slumped down with his hands on his knees and looked around in absolute bewilderment.

This has been the fourth time in this IPL that the bail has not been dislodged despite the ball hitting the stumps and the second involving Archer himself. One of the main reasons for this repeated occurrence is the weight of the zing bails, which is almost twice as that of a normal bail owing to the wiring which is embedded within.
In the match against Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni defended a full ball from Archer which rolled back and hit the stumps, but the bails were not dislodged. Dhoni himself has also been on the receiving end of this misfortune as the bails did not come off when he pulled off a freak run out against KL Rahul in the another match between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab.
In an earlier game between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, opener Chris Lynn got a lucky break when he inside edged a delivery by Dhawal Kulkarni with the ball going on to hit the stumps and ricocheting to the fine leg boundary, without the bails moving. The latest incident occurred on Saturday in the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings when Faf du Plessis survived as his bails remained firmly intact despite a length ball from Umesh Yadav hitting the off stump.
