Royal Challengers Bangalore

Bangalore have 2 matches in the next 3, so this is as good a time as any to bring both the big guns in conjunction – Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Sunrisers don’t have a match for the next 7, so I have the available spots and budget by getting rid of Sunrisers en masse. I’m still going with Kohli as the Power Player though, given that he bats above de Villiers, but AB is also worth considering as the Power Player if Manan Vohra doesn’t play – which means he bats at #3.

There are a host of other options I’d love to consider, but I’ve already used up enough subs on this match and don’t have the available spots in my team. Yuzvendra Chahal could be a good pick up here, he’s back in form and got some turn in a batting friendly Chinnaswamy last match. Quinton de Kock is a differential and marked his return to form last match. Both are top choices if you have the available slots/subs.

Kolkata Knight Riders

I have my top two KKR picks – Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa – already, so Andre Russell is the only one I need here. Both Lynn and Uthappa endured failures last game, but on a flat Chinnaswamy deck against a miserable Bangalore bowling lineup – 200 was chased here last match – they should feel more at home. Literally so for Uthappa, given that he’s played for the Karnataka domestic side for well over a decade before his transfer last season. Bangalore will not make the mistake of opening with spin for Lynn – Narine’s killed them twice for that from the other end. Uthappa’s still been in fantastic form, and given how he was batting, a big score is just around the corner.

Russell quashed all the concerns about his fitness in the last game. On a flat Chinnaswamy pitch against the most hapless bowling attack in the league, he’ll be absolutely licking his lips for the death overs. He’s also been bowling, which makes him a great match Power Player pick.

The big miss here is Sunil Narine – I don’t have the spot or sub for him. Bangalore have experienced the brunt of him 3 times in 3 – and despite how stupid their team management is, even they’ll have figured him out by now. Umesh Yadav’s searing pace and bounce will certainly be used against him, and so could Tim Southee if he comes into the lineup. His bowling form hasn’t been good and it’s a flat deck against some of the best players of spin in Kohli and de Villiers.

Uncapped Picks

Nitish Rana is the top pick here – failed in the last match, but he’s still in great form overall and could get a big one at this pancake of a pitch. He’ll have happy memories bowling too – he got out Kohli and de Villiers in consecutive deliveries in the reverse fixture.

Other choices are Shivam Mavi, who could go for a lot of runs against a heavy hitting batting unit – and that 29 run over against Shreyas Iyer will have hurt his confidence no end. Shubman Gill also scored runs last match, but he only got an opportunity as Kolkata lost 4 early – don’t expect that to happen again, and he’ll come in at #7 again.
