IPL Fantasy Tips – Match 24 – Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Chennai Super Kings

After yet another low scoring thriller last night, we move to the land of high scoring matches – Bangalore. Here are the top Fantasy picks and tips as Royal Challengers Bangalore host Chennai Super Kings in the southern derby.

Here is my squad for the match.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

With RCB having one game then another four match break, it’s again just the one Bangalore player I can afford in my side. It’s again the age old debate between Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, and like I have done so far this season, I’m again preferring Kohli. Despite de Villiers’ incredible innings last match, Kohli comes in at #3 – and will face more balls, as simple as that, and despite all his talent – de Villiers will be lucky to produce another innings like that this season. Kohli is also always the higher owned player, so he always does more damage if you ignore him and he performs.

Even Kohli was on 30 last match, before that Trent Boult freak catch got the better of him. I’ll reconsider a double up for their next match, but for now, if I’ve to choose one it’ll always be Kohli unless Kohli opens and de Villiers comes in at #3.

As far as others are concerned, with a 4 match break, there is not much thought into considering them.

Chennai Super Kings

Chennai have 5 fixtures in the next 12 – so unlike Bangalore, it’s the ideal time to stock up, as their players will serve you well in the medium term with so many matches in a cluster. It’s a wise time to get both their potent Fantasy options – Shane Watson and Suresh Raina. Watson has been in top form with the bat, and also crucially rolls his arm over – sometimes even at the death. He’s been a Fantasy cheat code for years, and he has done nothing to hamper that reputation so far.

Raina has been coming into his own after his calf injury – with a 40 and a 50 in the last 2 games. As consistent as anyone in the IPL, he’s a must have and a top Power Player pick for Chennai games. He’ll relish a batting beauty at the Chinnaswamy, as well as an insipid RCB attack who have conceded 200 in 2 of their last 3 games.

There’s not much else to consider – Rayudu bats at #4 in a stable top order, so he won’t get a lot of balls every time – and has usually been inconsistent – Dhoni, Billings bat too low, and Bravo has been off-colour with the ball, and doesn’t get many chances with the bat.

Uncapped Picks

At the Chinnaswamy, if you can – I’d give Manan Vohra a punt. The Punjab batsman has a solid IPL record and will be keen on proving himself with his opportunity here. I can’t afford him though, so I’m going with Deepak Chahar – the paceman has been on song in the last few games.
