Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris has revealed his predictions for all teams ahead of the start of the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The IPL is going to start on April 9.
The defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will face against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening clash of the tournament.
Mumbai Indians have won the IPL titles for the last two successive seasons. MI can now become the only side in IPL to win in three successive seasons if they win the IPL title this year.
By winning IPL 2020, they became the second team after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to defend their title.
Teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings will be looking to win their maiden IPL title this year. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals have not won the IPL title since the first season in 2008.
Kolkata Knight Riders last won the IPL title in 2014 and Sunrisers Hyderabad last won it in 2016. MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings will be looking to qualify for the playoffs after a poor outing last season.
Who will win this year’s IPL will be clear on March 30. However, Scott Styris has posted his predictions on Twitter. Styris feels that Mumbai Indians will again win the IPL and create the record of being the first-ever team to win the IPL title in three successive seasons.
He predicted last year’s finalist Delhi Capitals to finish at the second position this year. Styris feels that Punjab Kings will finish at the third position this year. Punjab have not reached the playoffs since 2014. He then picked Sunrisers Hyderabad for the fourth and final spot for the playoffs.
According to the Kiwi, the Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore will finish at the fifth position in the points table. He picked Rajasthan Royals to finish at the sixth position. Styris feels that RR could do much better based on their record-signing Chris Morris’ fitness and Jofra Archer’s availability.
Chennai Super Kings find the bottom spot in Styris’ prediction list
He then predicted Kolkata Knight Riders to finish at the seventh position and Chennai Super Kings to finish at the bottom of the points table.
If his prediction is right or not, that will be clear on May 30. Interestingly, Styris represented Chennai Super Kings under the leadership of MS Dhoni. So, it is definitely a bold prediction from Styris to leave Chennai Super Kings at the bottom of the points table.
All the teams will be giving their best to have a shot at winning the IPL title this year. The season promises to be a cracker. All the teams will play at neutral venues to eliminate the factor of home advantage.
