Rajasthan Royals suffered a massive blow in the ongoing season after their all-rounder Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the entire season. The England all-rounder has been ruled out with a suspected fractured hand as per a report by The Independent.
The 29-year-old picked up an injury while taking a catch to get the big wicket of Chris Gayle during the team’s match against Punjab Kings on Monday. The all-rounder sprinted in from the long-on region and put in a full-blooded dive forward to take the catch.
However, as it turned out, he dropped a regulation catch but was in complete discomfort. Ben Stokes opened the innings for his side later in the match. However, he stood at the crease for just three balls and was dismissed for a duck.
The productive all-rounder will reportedly remain here for a week. The England international will have an X-ray the day after tomorrow. The extent of his injury will be determined based on the scan reports.
Meanwhile, the England and Wales Cricket Board have already got in touch with the franchise over the management of the injury. Stokes’ absence gives a biyg headache to Rajasthan Royals’ team management.
Rajasthan Royals lost their opening encounter
Rajasthan Royals had a disastrous campaign in the previous season of the IPL. They finished at the bottom of the IPL 2020 points table as they managed to win 6 games but lost as many as 8 matches.
However, they showed great signs in the brand new season. They almost won the high-scoring encounter but Punjab Kings pulled off the ropes from the jaws of the defeat. KL Rahul-led team won the game by 4 runs at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Rajasthan Royals will lock horns with Delhi Capitals in their next game on April 15. The match will kick off at the same venue. On the other hand, Punjab Kings will take on Chennai Super Kings on April 16 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
