IPL 2021 LIVE: Virat Kohli’s captaincy record hasn’t been great so far in the Indian Premier League. Although he steered his team to the finals in the IPL 2016 season, they lost the final.

Royal Challengers Bangalore have long been criticized for their inability to win a trophy. They made it to the finals on three occasions but sadly, they were in tenterhooks more often than not.

RCB failed to grab their chances to better effect. As a result, they couldn’t win a trophy. Talking about their journey in IPL 2021, they have done well in the group stage.

RCB finished third in the points table with 9 wins and 5 defeats. With those wins, they gained 18 points. They locked horns with Kolkata Knight Riders in the Eliminator.

However, things didn’t go as per their plan. After posting 138/7 in their quota of 20 overs, RCB failed to defend the total. KKR won the game by six wickets and finished the game with two balls remaining.

Kolkata Knight Riders knocked RCB out of the competition. With this, Kohli’s journey as RCB captain came to an end. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli delivered an emotional speech in the dressing room.

Virat Kohli took charge as RCB captain in 2013. Overall, he led the team in 140 matches. The RCB captain lost as many as 70 games where they came through with flying colours in 66 games. The rest of the four games ended in no result.

“If you ask me honestly, the 2016 season was very special for us but I think, this season has been the most enjoyable after that. Just being part of this group and the way we conducted ourselves, the way we handled success and failure, is something that is very special,” Virat Kohli said in the video.

The former RCB captain also reflected on the defeat against KKR. However, at the same time, he took positives from the result.“We might all be disappointed today but no one looks broken.

We are very proud of the way we played, which I think is something we have always tried to create in this franchise, and I have been grateful to get the opportunity to captain this team for nine years,” he said.

After RCB got knocked out from the competition, Virat Kohli posted a touching tweet that went viral on the internet. He added that he is proud of the way they played the game despite not getting the outcome.

“Not the result we wanted but I am so proud of the character shown by the boys throughout the tournament. A disappointing end but we can hold our heads high. Thank you to all the fans, management & the support staff for your constant support.🙏,” Kohli wrote.
