IPL 2021: The second phase of the fourteenth edition of the IPL is in full swing. The coveted tournament started the UAE leg on 19 September with the match between CSK and MI.
However, Chennai Super Kings managed to beat the defending champions by 20 runs. It was such an eventful start to the festival of cricket. But few reports were making the rounds that England players would not be available for the playoffs.
The news was found to be true as the England cricket board had announced a tour to Pakistan. However, the tour was set to take place just before a couple of days from the IPL playoffs. And the ECB had also issued a summon to every player from the World T20 squad.
This eventually meant that many English players were not available for the IPL playoffs. Many IPL Teams were not happy with the conduct of the ECB. Some English players had already withdrawn from the IPL like Chris Woakes, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Butler etc.
Franchises wrote to the BCCI regarding the unprofessional behaviour of the English players. And certain teams were specifically going to lose their important players like CSK. The three-time IPL Champions overly depend on Moen Ali and Sam Curran.
IPL 2021: England players to be available after Pakistan tour cancellation
However, in the news of respite for many IPL teams, the English players will be available for the playoffs. It is due to the cancellation of the Pakistan tour. The ECB announced the cancellation just a few hours ago.
The England tour of Pakistan was called off due to a security threat in the country. The England Government decided not to pursue the tour after the tip-off regarding a security threat. And the ECB swiftly made the decision to not travel to the South Asian country.
However, the Kiwis were the first ones to call off their tour of Pakistan. The New Zealand camp headed back to their homeland just days ago before the start of the series.
New Zealand security agencies were alerted about a possible eventuality in Pakistan and they conveyed that to the Jacinda Ardren government.
And the whole squad and support staff hastily left the country. However, now England is the latest to follow the suit of withdrawal. The whole Pakistan and its cricket fans are going crazy over the pullout.
PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja is threatening these countries that have opted for their security. The whole situation could take different turns in the coming days.
However, this news is a sigh of relief to many teams especially the Chennai Super Kings. The MS Dhoni-led team is highly dependent on Sam Curran and Moen Ali. Both the players are part of the English squad of the T20 World Cup.
