Delhi Capitals suffered a big blow prior to the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. Their all-rounder Axar Patel has tested positive for the coronavirus pandemic. The shocking update was confirmed by recent reports of news agency ANI.
The Indian cricketer is currently in isolation as he has been kept away from Delhi Capitals’ camp. Right now, the Delhi Capitals’ all-rounder is following mandatory protocols. This is the second time an Indian player has contracted virus infection.
Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders’ player Nitish Rana has tested positive for the novel coronavirus pandemic. The 27-year-old cricketer Rana was isolated from KKR camp and underwent necessary protocols.
However, in the latest development, Rana has joined the KKR’s training session after he was tested negative. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals players will hope that Axar will recover as soon as possible.
Axar Patel isolated from his teammates
Meanwhile, sources from Delhi Capitals’ camp spoke to news agency ANI and confirmed the news adding that the player was tested positive. “Unfortunately, Axar has tested positive. He is isolating and all protocols are being followed.”
Axar Patel had a pretty decent season last time with Delhi Capitals. The all-rounder played 15 games where he scored 117 runs while also picking up 9 wickets to his name.
The 27-year-old showcased his bowling masterclass by keeping the opposition batsmen in check. He maintained an impressive economy of 6.41. For a spinner to hold such sort of an economy rate in IPL is worth applauding.
His absence is surely a big blow to Delhi Capitals because he provides a great balance to the side. The Gujarat all-rounder can play as a batsman at No.7 and also as a specialist spinner.
Delhi Capitals are slated to kick-start their IPL 2021 season against Chennai Super Kings on April 10. The match will kick-off at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Rishabh Pant will lead the side in the next season.
Delhi Capitals had an impressive season in IPL 2020
Delhi Capitals qualified for the finals for the first time in the history of IPL in the last season. Shreyas Iyer led the team ever so well and drew plaudits from every nook and corner of the cricket fraternity.
Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals in the finals. Delhi Capitals finished second in the points table. They managed to secure 8 wins but lost 6 games with a Net Run Rate of -0.109.
It will be quite interesting to see how Delhi Capitals would perform under Rishabh Pant. Pant already drew praise from CSK talismanic cricketer Suresh Raina. “I am sure he will be a talismanic leader and will be donning this new cap with pride,” Raina said on Pant.
