The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League has been suspended for an indefinite time. With COVID-19 breaching the bubble and the virus spread across four IPL teams, the BCCI suspended the competition for the time being.
However, it is a big disappointment for the fans all across the world. Meanwhile, the BCCI is looking to resume the tournament in the September window. So far, 29 matches have been completed in India.
BCCI hosted all these games in India itself. The rest of the 31 matches will most probably be held in India. As per the reports, IPL may be shifted to the UK. But, things haven’t been finalized yet.
With almost half of the tournament already came to an end, Sportskeeda India ranked the best captains based on their performances. All 8 captains tried their best to win games but not all of them were successful. Some found it really hard to win games.
8 Best Captain on performance basic:
1. MS Dhoni
Chennai Super Kings failed to qualify for the IPL 2020 playoffs for the first time in history. However, they sorted out their woes this time around. MS Dhoni led the team ever so well in the 14th edition of the IPL. It is good to see CSK performing well under the cricketing brain. CSK are currently second in the IPL 2021 points table with 5 wins and 2 defeats.
2. Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant was appointed the Delhi Capitals’ captain for the IPL 2021 season. Earlier, DC regular skipper Shreyas Iyer picked up a shoulder injury and subsequently ruled out of the IPL. However, Pant made a name for himself as a good captain this season. Under his tutelage, DC are now the table-toppers with 6 wins and 2 defeats.
3. Virat Kohli
Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli comes third on the list. RCB were the first and only team to start off the brand new season with four straight wins. However, they encountered a couple of defeats on their way. Currently, they are third in the IPL 2021 points table with 5 victories.
4. Sanju Samson
Rajasthan Royals lost experienced players like Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Liam Livingstone, and Andrew Tye. But Sanju Samson did manage his team quite well so far this season. Despite not having many experienced cricketers, the Royals are fifth in the points table. The Royals managed to win 3 games but lost 4 games this season.
5. Rohit Sharma
A lot was expected of the Rohit Sharma-led team this season considering that they won back-to-back IPL titles. However, they didn’t seem powerful or menacing in the 2021 season. But, we can’t judge the team’s performance based on the first half of the season because anytime, they can surprise the opponents. Currently, they are fourth in the table with 4 wins and 3 defeats.
6. KL Rahul
Lokesh Rahul captained Punjab Kings in 5 games and after that, he was hospitalized due to acute appendicitis. Mayank Agarwal led the team against Delhi Capitals but lost the game. KL Rahul is ranked 6th in terms of overall performance. Currently, the Punjab Kings are 6th in the table with 3 wins and 5 defeats.
7. David Warner
David Warner will be remembered for steering Sunrisers Hyderabad to maiden IPL trophy in the 2016 season. However, in the ongoing season, it has been a string of defeats. Sunrisers started their campaign with 3 straight defeats. SRH team management sacked Warner as captain. Kane Williamson is the current SRH captain. The Sunrisers are at the bottom of the points table with 1 win and 6 defeats.
8. Eoin Morgan
Eoin Morgan replaced Dinesh Karthik midway through the IPL 2020 season. However, the tactic didn’t pay off because the Knight Riders finished 5th on the table. Talking about their overall performance this season, Morgan didn’t live up to his reputation as a captain. The seventh-placed side could win only 2 games but lost 5 games this season.
