“I’m Not A Panic Buy” Arsenal Star Clarifies His Move

Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has opened up regarding his move from Manchester United to North London in the January transfer window.

Arsenal let Alexis Sanchez leave for Old Trafford in the winter transfer window with Mkhitaryan moving the other way from Manchester United. While many believed that Henrikh Mkhitaryan was used as deadweight in order to force a deal from Manchester United for Sanchez, the Armenian has shunned down any of those suggestions.

I would have joined Arsenal Anyways- Mkhitaryan

Speaking to FourFourTwo, the 29 year old attacking midfielder came clear regarding his switch to the Emirates Stadium in January, he said that Sanchez was running down his Arsenal contract that he was not part of claiming the Chilean could have stayed till the end of his deal, “I didn’t’ come here to replace anyone. Everyone keeps saying that I’ve been part of a deal for Alexis Sanchez but it’s not true because he was running down his contract, If he didn’t choose to come to Manchester United, he would have stayed at Arsenal until the summer.”

Mkhitaryan, who has had quite a flying start to life at Arsenal, gave his new fans some much-needed joy by stating that he was the one who wanted a move to North London and wasn’t involved to replace Sanchez, “Everything was up to me. I’m not saying I was important in this aspect but I want everyone to understand I wasn’t made part of the deal for Alexis Sanchez. When I heard I could swap Manchester United for Arsenal, I said ‘yes I want to do that”

The former Manchester United star also took a sly dig at his then Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho explaining that he wanted to play ‘attacking football’, “I wasn’t evening thinking twice or thinking that maybe I don’t have to go. I said ‘no I want to go. I want to have more playing time. I want to enjoy playing attacking, offensive football’. I made the right decision coming here.”

Author’s Take-

So far Mkhitaryan has proved to be much better by than his opposite number Alexis Sanchez at Manchester United. Yes, the two are very different players with different abilities but Mkhitaryan seems to suit Arsenal’s style of play while Sanchez is struggling for form and adapting to life under Mourinho.
