The Blues manager Antonio Conte has reportedly snubbed a managerial role at the home of the European Champions Real Madrid.
Chelsea has had a rather underwhelming campaign this season and after finishing fifth in the Premier League and after finishing fifth in the Premier League, the West London club was ineligible for Champions League football. And although Chelsea won the FA Cup by beating fierce rivals Manchester United in the final, manager Antonio Conte was still destined to get the sack.
Chelsea’s transfer board are already looking out for replacements for the Italian boss but Conte still looks determined to see out his contract that lasts for another year. And although Chelsea is keen to get rid of him for a new leader, the 48-year-old has reportedly rejected a move to the Santiago Bernabeu in order to remain at Stamford Bridge.
After Zinedine Zidane announced that he would step down from Real Madrid, there were a number of candidates that were ready to take up the job as the Frenchman’s successor. However, according to Sky Sports Italia, the Los Blancos called up Conte to take up the job at the Spanish capital but the former Juventus boss decided to reject the lucrative offer.
Conte is understood that he would not want to work with a bunch of top-class superstars at Madrid as they would be unwilling to comply with his work ethic. But Conte is also keen on staying at Chelsea until he gets fired as he will receive a fee of £9 million as compensation.
Conte won the Premier League in his first season in English football with Chelsea last term and the FA Cup the following season. But the failure to qualify for Champions League football has caused Chelsea to decide if they want to fire the Italian.
Chelsea should be grateful that Conte has rejected a deal from Real Madrid because it speaks volumes of whom the La Liga giants want as their next manager. But it could also be because that he wants to work hard and honor his contract as Conte has mentioned plenty of times before. An interesting summer awaits.
