Erling Haaland has been the talk everywhere around the world. The Norwegian has been linked with a lot of clubs after his brilliant form. And he has revealed the requirement needed to land him. He claims that a club must really ‘want’ him in order to sign him.
The 20-year-old striker has been simply sensational. His career is decorated with goals. He came into the limelight when he joined the Austrian side RB Salzburg. Since then he has scored an average of more than a goal in every match.
He scored 5 hattricks in the short stay he had there, along with a Champions League debut that also ended with a hattrick. Later, it was either Manchester United or Borussia Dortmund where he would end up. His release clause demand could not be met by United, hence ending up at Dortmund.
He recently became the youngest and the fastest player to score 20 Champions League goal. Haaland has been single-handedly carrying The Black and Yellow throughout this season. He crossed the 20 goal tally in the Bundesliga last week.
Despite the club struggling to crack into the top-4 this season, his performance has been a standout one. They have progressed into the quarter-finals of the Champions League thanks to the goal machine. He scored 4 of the 5 goals in the 2 legs against Sevilla to set up a date with one of his suitors, Manchester City.
The Norwegian has scored 33 goals this season and a total of 49 in 49 games for Borussia Dortmund. A performance like this has also attracted interests from across Europe. With Chelsea, United, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid all wanting him, it will be a great tussle for his signature.
How Erling Haaland’ demand will affect his suitors?
Given his demands, Real Madrid might be out of the race. In a recent interview, Zinedine Zidane said that Karim Benzema is their main striker and will remain that way for the coming years. Although that will only be a few years down the road, they will ultimately want a long-term replacement for him. But Haaland will not wait.
Barcelona can land him as they don’t have a proper striker. They will be offloading their current one along with few others and Joan Laporta has made him their top priority.
Manchester City might be letting go of their decade-old striker Sergio Aguero for free coming summer. But they have Gabriel Jesus who has been filling his shoes very well. City can easily afford Erling Haaland as it is also his father’s old club. But if they get him Jesus will have to be compromised.
Chelsea are the club that have been the most linked with. They have blossomed under Thomas Tuchel defensively, but their attack still needs work. They have plenty of strikers and their latest addition Timo Werner has been struggling to settle. Chelsea are also willing for a swap deal to land Erling Haaland.
The club that can clearly fulfil the requirement is Manchester United. All their strikers are currently on a dry run with the majority of their goals scored by a midfielder and a winger. Anthony Martial has again met with a dull season with only a few cameo displays.
United are willing to listen to offers for the Frenchman. Edinson Cavani has been out of form since his return from his injury and his link with a move back to his hometown has also been reported. Moreover, United coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will look to exploit his previous relationship with the player from Molde times.
