Neville and Carragher questions Southgate’s decision:
Sky Sports pundits Neville and Jamie Carragher criticized England manager Gareth Southgate’s decision over Reds’ full-nack. Southgate played Trent-Alexander in midfield positioning a 4-0 win against Andorra.
Three Lions have plenty of good options in the right-back position. Currently, Kyle Walker has been first-choice for Southgate despite his inconsistent form for Manchester City. Reece James, Kieran Trippier, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are other options who are competing for that position with Liverpool star.
Alexander-Arnold is a little ahead of all the above options and both the former legendary defenders agree on that. Jamie Carragher was surprised after learning Southgate’s decision of playing Alexander-Arnold in midfield role.
‘When I first heart it I thought it was completely nonsense to be honest. I went from the middle to full-back under Gerard Houllier. My initial reaction was I didn’t want to play full-back but you get so much of the ball. – Carragher on Southgate’s decision of playing Alexander-Arnold in midfield.
