Eintracht Frankfurt striker Andre Silva has had his say on rumors linking him with a move to Manchester United. Silva said speculation around his future is giving him extra motivation.
The Portugal international has been in scintillating form this season. He has scored 19 goals and provided 2 assists in 21 Bundesliga games this season. The German club occupies the last Champions League place in the league table, ahead of the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.
Silva struggled after leaving FC Porto for Milan in 2017. He only scored a handful of goals before going out on-loan to Sevilla in Spain. There also, he could only score 9 goals in 27 games and ultimately signed for Frankfurt.
The 25-year old joined Frankfurt initially on-loan from AC Milan in 2019 before making the deal permanent a year later. He has 36 goal contributions in 37 starts since coming to Germany. His prolific goal-scoring form this season has attracted interest from various top European clubs including Manchester United and Atletico Madrid.
Andre Silva on Man United interest
The UEFA Nations League winner said that he is aware of the reported interest from Manchester United, amid recent links with the Old Trafford club. Speaking in an interview with O Jogo, Silva said:
“I’ve heard rumours, but that’s it. Rumours are rumours. At the end of this season, it’s something that gives me motivation to work, it’s a sign that what I have accomplished has borne fruit and the path has been good.”
Also, when quizzed about how much is he worth in today’s transfer market, Silva said:
“Around £105 million? I’m kidding. I think I heard 30 and something somewhere…when we sell our merchandise, we always increase the value a little bit. Things are as they are and, whatever happens around us, the most important thing is to look at me and what I can do.”
United in need of a striker
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are the top-scoring team in the Premier League this season. The Red Devils have scored 53 goals in 26 league games. But they are over-reliant on Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford for the goals. The pair have scored 45% of the club’s league goals this season.
No other United player has managed double figures in goals, with Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, and Scott McTominay all tied on seven goals. Cavani’s contract will expire at the end of the season. And Martial’s form has been Solskjaer’s major concern this season. He was voted Fan’s Player of the Year last season, having scored 17 league goals. But this season, he has looked a shadow of himself. There are rumors linking him away from Old Trafford.
Solskjaer wants Dortmund’s Erling Haaland as his main striker this summer. But have to pay upwards of £100 million for the Norwegian striker. This is not feasible in the current transfer market.
This is where Andre Silva can come in handy for United. He is highly sought after this summer. He will also cost less than Haaland and with his composure in front of goal, he would be a useful option for Solskjaer’s side.
