Chelsea looks to be ready for a big change with Lampard’s reign. The former midfield ace is looking to make some big changes this summer. Frank is set on rebuilding Chelsea to its former glory. But just in the Lampard way this time around.
The Blues were able to land some top stars already. Spending around £90M early, they were able to seal the deal on Werner and Ziyech. But Lampard and co won’t stop there. He is still on the lookout for more stars to add. He already has a solid attacking row, but still, eye Kai Havertz to seal it off. This will be a revolutionary move for the Blues. With some of the best stars under the same roof.
But the main area that Lampard is now focusing on is the backline. Chelsea’s defence doesn’t seem to be comparable to their starry frontline. Lampard’s side, as a result, has conceded 54 goals this season. Making them the team to concede most goals in the top 10. They are even equal to Brighton who lies fifteenth in the table. This issue doesn’t go well for Lampard and hence, he is looking to make a solution.
Lampard is eyeing some defensive options to sign this summer. But in order to complete the signings, he will have to cash in some stars. Already spending £54M and £33M on two key stars. Chelsea needs more transfer funds to juice their other areas. So Lampard is set to line four of his defenders for sale this summer, as per The Times.
Lampard seems to have put some first-team members up for sale. The list includes the likes of four defenders. Marcos Alonso, Emerson Palmieri, Zouma, and Christensen are the defensive options to make an exit. Though Zouma has been partnering with Rudiger they still seem to leak goals. So Lampard wants a more solid option to make it up.
Christensen too seems to have lost to impress the gaffer. He has not made many appearances under Lampard, so he is also a source to fund other transfers. The two left-backs Alonso and Palmieri were brought in by Antonio Conte. But they can’t meet Lampard’s high expectations. As a result, the duo will also are made available in the market.
A more surprising name in the list is that of N’golo Kante. The midfielder has been in Chelsea for a while now. He has been showcasing some class performances as well. But it seems like Lampard doesn’t have a position to play him in. Hence, the Blues are looking to cash him this summer. There are many parties showing interest in the midfield ace. So a deal will soon show up.
Willian also has been hinting on an exit. With him being reluctant in signing a contract extension of two years, his future is uncertain. The Brazilian wants a three-year contract if he is to stay. But Chelsea doesn’t seem to encourage the idea. There is interest from Arsenal and Spurs for the winger. Jorginho has been rumored to join Maurizio Sarri at Juventus too. The Italian has not been the first choice for Lampard lately. Hence, it seems like he will soon reunite with Sarri.
Kepa Arrizabalaga has been way too disappointing this season. Lampard seems to have run out of patience with him and so is plotting to cash him. But there are also reports of his interest in sending him on loan. The £71m signing has been named as their most expensive mistake.
The Blues are hence searching for an ideal ball stopper. Two names to have been linked with them are Jan Oblak and Andre Onana. But Oblak’s signing seems to be full of issues. Atletico Madrid won’t be too keen on letting go of their star keeper. Also, Chelsea is eyeing Jose Gimenez as well, he alone has a huge price tag. So it’s not likely for them to secure both the signings.
Ben Chilwell is still Lampard’s number one LB target. The Englishman is also fond of making the shift. Frank Lampard has already made it clear that he will sign at least one CB this summer. And a keeper is also a top priority for him. Hence, the offloading process is key to fund all these transfers. With Marina Granovskaia also in for the changes, Lampard may get to complete his plans.
