Former Chelsea manager to sign €80m United forward for Serie A club

Serie A outfit Inter Milan are reportedly negotiating with the player’s agent over a possible move to Italy this summer.

Manchester United attacker and Belgium international Romelu Lukaku has been linked with a move to Italian outfit Inter Milan. Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is set to become the new head coach at the Italian club and is an admirer of the Belgian, who had a dismal season at United.

Romelu Lukaku failed to deliver the goods for Manchester United this season. His club finished sixth in the Premier League points table even after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho at the helm.

It is reported that Conte was an admirer of Lukaku when he was at Chelsea and tried to sign the Belgian during his last season at the West London club but was beaten by Manchester United.

Reports in the media suggest that Inter Milan are in talks with Romelu Lukaku’s agent Federico Pastorello.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are expected to have a busy summer at Old Trafford as they head for a much-needed squad revamping. Manchester United ended the current season on a dismal note as they conceded embarrassing defeats against lower-ranked teams in the Premier League.

Even Ole Gunnar Solskjaer couldn’t help Manchester United turn the tide at the end of the season. Ole is expected to bring new players to Manchester United and release under-performing players. It remains to be seen if Lukaku will be allowed to leave the club.

With Juventus interested in buying Inter Milan’s attacker Mauro Icardi, the Italian club would be able to raise the funds for signing Lukaku by selling the Argentine.

It is expected that Inter Milan would need to spend around €70-€80m should Manchester United decide to sell the Belgium international.

Lukaku currently earns €10m per year at Manchester United. If he joins Inter, he will likely be earning €7.5m per year and other bonuses.

Author’s Take

Romelu Lukaku has struggled to deliver for Manchester United. With United slated to sign more quality players and release under-performers, it looks like a move away from Old Trafford is the right option for the attacker.
