FC Barcelona is looking for a left-footed center back, with the possible departure of Samuel Umtiti on the cards.
The Spanish newspaper SPORT reported that FC Barcelona is looking to offload Samuled Umtiti in the next transfer window. The French center back would have left in the January transfer window, as several Premier League clubs were interested in him. Umtiti has suffered from Knee injuries for the past two seasons. He has remained out of the team for the majority of the season. Umtiti’s performances have greatly declined since coming back from injury.
However, Barca is finding it hard to sell the Frenchman for the desired value of €50 million. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has struck a massive blow to the financial conditions of all clubs across Europe. So, the clubs may not be prepared to pay such a huge amount for the center back. Hence, the Catalan club is even considering to reduce the price tag of Samuel Umtiti. However, the World Cup winner’s exit from the club in the next transfer window is quite clear.
FC Barcelona has identified Alessia Romagnoli as the possible man to replace Umtiti.
Barcelona, therefore, has to buy a left-footed center back to replace Samuel Umtiti. The Catalan club has identified Alessia Romagnoli from Inter Milan, as the possible man to replace Umtiti. However, Barca will face stiff competition from the Italian side Lazio. SPORT believes that AC Milan has set a price tag of 50 million euros for him.
However, they also reveal that Barca will find it tough to secure his services. The Italian side is reluctant to sell one of their best players. Adding to that, the Blaugranas are going through a financial crisis, and also have a motive to sign big money players like Lautaro Martinez and Neymar in the upcoming transfer window. So, Barcelona may not be able to pay 50 million euros.
The transfer will, however, be very tough for the Catalan club.
Secondly, Romagnoli’s agent is Mino Raiola, whose history with Barca is not good. Mino Raiola is a tough nut to crack as he plays hardball with both the buying and the selling clubs. Raiola will be looking for different possible destinations where his client could get a better deal than the current €3.5m a season he is getting.
Barcelona can sell players like Ivan Rakitic, Rafinha and Arturo Vidal in the next transfer window. Hence, they can raise the funds and bid for Romagnoli. He is already a leader, a natural captain at AC Milan. He is the possible replacement to Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci in the Italian defense when both of them decide to hang up their boots.
