FC Barcelona has reportedly reactivated their interest for the Brazillian Winger Willian, whose contract with Chelsea expires this summer.
The Chelsea winger Willian Borges gets linked with FC Barcelona in every transfer window now. A recent report from a Spanish media outlet, Mundo Deportivo says that Barcelona has reactivated their interest for Willian. The 31-year-old may land at the Camp Nou this summer.
FC Barcelona reactivated their interest for Willian.
Barca considers Willian as a great option in the wings despite his age. The Brazillian is versatile, has pace and is a good overall talent. Adding to that, he is now available for free. The Catalan club is already gunning to make a move for bringing back Neymar Jr this summer. PSG has put a price tag of 150 million for Neymar.
However, Barcelona’s move for Neymar will be very tough. The club is under a serious economic crisis right now. The coronavirus pandemic has just added salt to injury. So, Barcelona has to sell some star players in the team for big money to fund the move. Moreover, the Catalan club also faces stiff competition from other sides, and will also have to bear in mind the demands of Neymar.
In that case, Barcelona has kept Willian in mind who will be available for free this summer. Willian’s contract with Chelsea ends this summer. However, Willian has also attracted interest from Paris Saint-German. So, Barca will even face competition from the French club, if they decide to go for Willian.
The Brazillian will be out of contract this summer.
Willian, in a recent interview with UOL, confirmed that he may probably leave Chelsea at the end of the season. The club has failed to reach an agreement with the Brazillian till now.
“The only concrete negotiation was to renew a contract with Chelsea, which wasn’t possible. They wanted a two-year contract and I asked for three. Now, everything has stopped, I will only have news when I return.” Willian said.
“Everyone knows that my contract ends in a few months, so the renewal is really difficult. I think it will be very difficult for me to renew because Chelsea offered me two more years and I asked for three. The thing was like that and we don’t talk about it anymore. The club said it was impossible to offer a contract of three years, so there is this obstacle for now, but nothing is impossible.” the 31-year said.
The Telegraph reports that Chelsea has put the contract talks with Willian in stall after he flew back to Brazil to stay with his family in quarantine. The club is hoping to offer temporary contracts to its players in part by part basis, in case the season extends beyond June 30.
Willian’s representative earlier revealed that Barca negotiated with them several times for Willian’s free transfer. Barcelona even made a move of £50million for Willian in 2018 but Chelsea turned it down. Willian has scored seven goals and created six assists in his 37 appearances for Chelsea this season.
