Fakhar Zaman records the highest individual run score while chasing in an ODI. However, his dismissal on 193 shut doors of Pakistan victory in the second ODI against South Africa. It was a nail-biting finish to an action-packed match that centered around Fakhar Zaman.
The series decider awaits both teams at Centurion now. With this victory by 17 runs, South Africa was able to level the 3 match series. Amidst all happenings, Quinton De Kock’s act behind the stumps has become the talk of the town.
Chasing a mammoth total of 342, Pakistan did not have a promising start. The first 4 wickets fell like a pack of cards well within 100 runs. With wickets falling at regular intervals, pressure continued building up. On the other hand, Fakhar Zaman stood tall for his team fighting the African bowlers.
He proved to be a nightmare for the South African bowlers as he smashed shots all over the ground. With few survivals, he managed to take his team close to the winning mark too. His magnificent innings of 193 runs came in just 155 deliveries. This included a total of 18 boundaries and 10 sixes.
De Kock fools Fakhar Zaman to dismiss him before his 200
The unstoppable one-man army seemed to be taking his team over the line. However, in an interesting turn of events, we could see an exhibition of foul play by the South African keeper, De Kock.
The incident happened in the final over of the Pakistan innings. Lungi Ngidi was to defend a total of 31 runs. On the strike was the dangerous-looking Fakhar Zaman. Ngidi delivered a comparatively slower ball which Fakhar jammed it powerfully towards long-off. Running for the second, he falls prey to a run-out owing to the mixed conspiracy by the fielder, Aiden Makram and De Kock.

Aiden did terrific work near the ropes and launched a well-directed throw at the keeper’s end. De Kock tried to fool Fakhar Zaman by pointing towards the non-striker’s end as if the throw was directed towards the bowler’s end. Fakhar Zaman was in a state of trance as he looked back instead of completing his run.
This fake fielding effort gave the ball enough time to travel towards the stumps as it knocked them over with him well short of the crease. Aiden’s throw was so perfect that De Kock did not have to do anything more to the ball. This dismissal resulted in Fakhar Zaman missing out on his well-deserving double hundred as well. Also, as a result, Pakistan lost this match by 17 runs.
This act by De Kock has been criticized and frowned upon by both fans as well as the cricket fraternity. While some of them lauded Fakhar Zaman and asserted that he deserved to reach his double ton, the others bashed the keeper for his actions over Twitter.
Here are some of the tweets in response to the act :
South Africa smash a huge total in the pink ODI
Having won the toss, Pakistan opted to bowl first. Proving this decision wrong, almost all the South African batsmen hit half-centuries. The wicketkeeper, De Kock, and skipper Bavuma scored 80 runs and 92 runs respectively to establish a strong foundation for the side. They were adequately assisted by Dussen and Miller towards the end who also ended their innings with 60 and 50 runs respectively.
Pakistan bowlers proved to be inefficient with the exception of Haris Rauf who bagged 03 wickets alone for his side. Other bowlers proved to be expensive and shared a wicket each to reward runs to the opposition that cost them the match.
