Carlo Ancelotti has decided to push to sign Serie A’s current top goal scorer Ciro Immobile to bolster the attack.
Everton has shortlisted Lazio star Ciro Immobile for a shock move to England. Immobile has been an absolutely brilliant season and lead the golden boot race ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo. 90min reports Ancelotti wants to rope in the hitman and has talked to Everton’s hierarchy about the same.
The manager may have expected better of the toffees but after 38 matches, they sit 12th in the table – out of the top half, below Dyche’s Burnley as well as Hansenhuttl’s Southampton. It is rather shocking to see a man of immense repute and history not able to drawstrings well enough at Goodison Park.
Everton has struggled to dominate the attack with Calvert Lewin and Richarlison. Though they have a goal tally high enough for a mid-table finish, 16th placed West Ham United still outnumber them in goals. One has David Moyes in the sidelines, the other has Ancelotti.
Carlo Ancelotti : The manager weary of winning
Carlo Ancelotti has been one of the most successful football managers ever to embrace modern football. He is one of the only managers to manage in 4 Champions League finals, and lift the trophy 3 times. When Marcelo Lippi was drawing lines of a powerhouse in Turin, Ancelotti was managing Maldini and Nesta in AC Milan.
Ancelotti is, in fact, a statement. Moyes, however, has been a statement too. While Ancelotti has basked in glory, Moyes has suffered blasphemy after Ferguson left Manchester United. Naturally, when the Italian joined Everton, the fans expected them to finish at least in the top 6. But, as he seasons finished, ‘Carletto’ is still wondering how to build the team afresh next year.
Serie A’s goal machine Ciro Immobile
To begin with, he is looking at the league he bossed as a player and manager – the Serie A. Ronaldo may enjoy the fame he pulled to Juventus, but the golden boot race doesn’t have on top – at least this time.
Ciro Immobile leads the race with 34 goals. The 30-year-old joined Lazio in 2016 and has scored 123 goals for the club since. Though he sits on the precipice of goals, European giants are not desperate to sign him for 2 reasons:
1.Age: Immobile is 30 years old and that doesn’t give him much time to settle at a club. As age slows him down, his resale value is bound to go down too. With the pandemic crippling the economy, it is hard to afford him too, especially with the age factor involved.
2.More penalty goals: Ciro has 14 goals in penalties this season. 3rd in the list Lukaku has 15 goals of his 21 in open play-a percentage of 71.43%, whereas that metric for Immobile sits at just 58.8%.
Everton need to trust Ancelotti
Regardless, Kane is England’s best striker, infamous for penalties and tap-ins too. But that doesn’t deter him at all, does it? If Everton needs to see fireworks in the front, they need to trust Ancelotti. He polished Chelsea, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, and Real Madrid, bringing the best out of stars like Ozil.
Ciro may choose to move to England because he feels Lazio is down with few anxiety issues and the players can ‘no longer have fun’. Lazio may allow him to leave for a fee of around £50 million. The toffees should dig deep and trust Carletto to let him build a squad from scratch. Perhaps then can they ask for results!
