FC Barcelona has already grabbed the Laliga title, but their boss Ernesto Valverde wants the side from Camp Nou to make history by staying unbeaten in the whole season and grab the invincible tag.

Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde feels and claims that remaining undefeated in the whole season is now their main target, and they will give their all to achieve this in the remaining next 2 games. There weren’t too many expectations from the Blaugrana side at the start of the season, when Valverde was handed the reigns after Luis Enrique’s departure and the then Barcelona star, Neymar’s shocking and sudden departure from Barcelona to PSG.

Expectations worsened drastically after a dismal transfer window and finally a humiliating defeat against their bitter rivals Real Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana at the start of the season. But the FC Barcelona side under Ernesto Valverde showed their true mettle and acted differently, and brushed aside their La Liga Title contender Real Madrid, very early in the season.

The side from Camp Nou sealed the title at Deportivo La Coruna last month with 4 games to spare. It was followed by an entertaining draw in the Clasico last week. Then they Brushed off Villareal 5-1 in the Camp Nou midweek. Valverde before Sundays’ trip to Levante confirmed that they have their target set for becoming invincible in the whole La Liga season after having already won the League and the Copa Del Rey.

In a pre-match press conference before the clash against Levante, Ernesto Valverde went on to say “In principle, this is never a goal of a season [to remain undefeated] but now that we’ve won the league we need motivations and this is a very, very clear one. You have to remember it’s a very, very long time since a team went unbeaten through a league season. Our main objectives for the season are already completed, so now let’s see if we can make some history.”

If they manage to defeat Levante, FC Barcelona’s objective to become La Liga invincible will have to endure a small twist after a friendly match between Mamelodi Sundowns and FC Barcelona was announced for next Wednesday in South Africa, to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s centenary.

“It’s certainly not a normal situation but it’s something that we will do as well as we can,” the head coach explained, with a home match to come against Real Sociedad on La Liga’s final day. “Let’s hope it causes no problems as far as the players are concerned, but it is an honor to be able to go and play in this game.

We take this an as a training session, a strange one. The idea is to take two teams and not take too many risks. It’s a nice thing to do on the back of winning the league championship. We’ll try to do this so it is positive and do things as well as we can.”

Author’s  take:

FC Barcelona is having a tremendous La Liga season where they have not put a foot wrong till now. They have two games remaining one against Levante away and one against Real Sociedad in Camp Nou. If they can somehow manage to stay unbeaten in the upcoming away match against Levante, I see them achieving this historical feat of staying unbeaten in the season. This will be a huge achievement for the side in a season which was termed to be a disaster by fans and Football pundits.
