As we continue to look at the top performers in the Premier League after matchday 26, here are our top 5 winger.
A little shimmy-shammy on the wings and cutting back through the defenders is what wingers were all about. But not anymore. With the likes of Eden Hazard and Raheem Sterling, wingers play a much crucial role for a team than before. But most importantly, it is Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min who has been in a fine form in Harry Kane’s absence.
5. Sadio Mane:
There is one man Liverpool should thank for keeping the team ahead of Manchester City (The Reds have played one less game) despite their poor form in the past few weeks. And it is none other than Sadio Mane, who has scored in each of the last four Premier League games. And the Senegal international opened the scoring again against Bournemouth to make it 12 goals in 24 league appearances.
4. Leroy Sane:
If you are ever dropped from the World Cup squad in the future, just take notes from Leroy Sane about proving a point. The German has been in a sensational form this season with 8 goals and 9 assists in the Premier League. Sane did not get a chance against Chelsea as the Citizens had already finished the game in the first half, but with heavy fixtures list coming up, the German will be crucial for the club.
3. Eden Hazard:
It’s a good thing that Hazard scored all the goals at the beginning of the season because if this list was made based on the performances in the New Year, the Belgian would be nowhere near top 10. After 2 goals against last-placed Huddersfield Town, Hazard was delivered yet another disappointing performance in Chelsea’s 6-0 thrashing. With 12 goals and 10 assists, he is 3rd in our rankings right now but definitely not for long.
2. Son Heung-Min:
There are a lot of people who think Paul Pogba is the most in-form player in the Premier League right now. But I beg to differ. The way Son Heung-Min has delivered for the Spurs in Harry Kane’s absence to keep them alive in the title race is a simply remarkable. The South Korean scored yet another goal against Leicester City, making it 3 goals in 3 games since his return from the Asian Games. And his season tally – 11 goals and 5 assists in just 20 appearances.
1. Raheem Sterling:
Who started the rampage against Chelsea? Raheem Sterling. Who finished the rampage against Chelsea? Raheem Sterling. The winger continued his sublime form against the Blues and scored two goals to make it 12 goals and 9 assists for the season. With Sterling’s current form and Aguero’s beast mode, things do not look good for Liverpool in the title race.
