Former Liverpool forward is keen to make a move to Manchester this summer after turning down the Saint’s new offer. The striker has set sights on either Manchester City or Manchester United for a potential transfer.
Manchester City is already in the market in search of a goal-scoring striker. The Premier League title winners of last season will miss their target man in the upcoming season. Argentine striker Sergio Aguero left the Citizens club after spending years with Premier League outfits.
Aguero is now a Barcelona player, who joined the club on a free transfer. He will be playing alongside his national teammate Lionel Messi at Camp Nou. But, Pep Guardiola needs to find a similar style striker to replace Aguero in his position.
However, former Barcelona manager and City board want to land experienced striker Harry Kane from Spurs. The English striker also wants to leave the club and win silverware elsewhere. Although the Spurs board is confident that Kane will stay with them for another season.
According to talkSPORT, Southampton striker Danny Ings is desperate to join either of Manchester clubs ahead of the new season. Ings has reportedly turned down a lucrative multi-year contract offer from the Saints last month.
The 28-year-old wants to win silverware and is in plans to move away from Saint Mary’s Stadium. However, Manchester United won’t be a possible destination for Ings this season. The Red Devils already have Edinson Cavani, who is in good touch for the club.
No big enquiry yet from Manchester clubs
As per talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, “If a big team comes in for him and that hasn’t happened. I should stress that there hasn’t been a single inquiry. He’s got his sights set on Manchester United or Man City. I’m not sure either of those clubs is going to start banging on the door.”
While Spurs have also shown interest in signing the striker for the new season. New boss Nuno Espirito Santo wants to see Ings and Kane working together up front in the White Hart Lane. However, Kane itself is pushing for a move away from Tottenham.
The Saints want to keep hold of their leading goalscorers last season with a lucrative offer. But, Ings has turned down the four-year offer and wants a move away in the summer. It’ll be interesting to see which club will secure Ings’ signature for the new season.
Ralph Hasenhuttl confident about Ings’ stay
The Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl seems confident in convincing Ings for a stay at his club. However, the player has already made his intentions clear by turning down the long-term deal. Former Liverpool star has been consistent in front of goal in the last two seasons.
Ings has found the net 34 times in 67 appearances in the last two seasons. It’s important that he continues to deliver this performance, but a move away with less game time might be a struggle. Moreover, Ings has shown in the past that he can prove his worth in big clubs like Liverpool.
Ings joined Liverpool from Burnley during the 2015/16 season after his good form in scoring goals. Later, he joined the Saints in 2018 on loan and made the move permanent in 2019. Ings managed 22 goals during the 2019/20 season with Southampton. Only time can tell where he will end up this summer.
