Ole Gunner Solskjaer is keen to watch Manchester United defensive line with more consistency this season and the other departments are really excelling under him. The Red Devils are in great form with title intentions this season.
The midfield and attacking lines are getting upgrades and the quality of play is really rising up to the mark of their status. But, the defensive line needs further investment considering the future also. The Norwegian boss seems to continue a few more seasons for United duty and he should address the long term goals of the club.
According to the latest transfer updates, Manchester United are tracking down 24-year-old Spanish defender Pau Torres. The defender is one of the major names in the actin plan of Old Trafford with long term interest.
Why Pau Torres?
Pau Torres made his national team debut last year and got only the experience of 7 games in La Roja. But the player is valued as the long-term replacement for Sergio Ramos in the national team by Pandits. Under former coach Roberto Moreno, he scored a goal in his debut against Malta.
He managed to gain trust from the new boss Luiz Enrique after Spain qualified for the Euro 2020. Enrique has described Torres as the perfect long-term replacement for Sergio once he retired. This is such a reputation for the youngster.
Pau Torres is left-footed which is extremely beneficial as he provides balance in the build-up and construction of playing out from the back. This is a key attribute wanted by top European clubs as left-sided centre-backs that can play out from the back are fundamental to how most teams play.
His physicality has allowed him to dominate opposition players aerially and on the ground. He is also an excellent reader of the game with a high football. In Premier League, Torres can offer more service from the back, and Old Trafford seems to be the correct spot for the Spaniard.
Old Trafford conditions for Torres
Manchester United have got a decent defensive that can challenge big sides. The addition of Harry Maguire last year was a good decision for the Red Devils. The service of Victor Lindelof is also working out fair results for them.
But, the options for the stopper-back position need some rejuvenation. The backups Eric Baily, Phil Jones, and Axel Tuanzebe are not getting an edge to the formation and Torres is a good replacement for the position.
Reports figure out Eric Baily as the first option that will walk out of Old Trafford if Torres lands in England. Also, there exists the possibility of a swap deal with Torres from Villareal for Baily. But, the Spanish side are not ready to leave the defender under the £60m price tag. (Caughtoffside)
Torres has got a contract till 2024 in Spain and offering a deal will cost a decent amount for United. The Red Devils are expecting a silverware this season and if they can win one, the chance is high for Torres’s deal this summer.
