Dinesh Karthik picks his all-time IPL XI ahead of IPL 2021

KKR wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik picks his all-time IPL XI in interaction with Cricbuzz

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been the hub of the best players in the world right from its start in 2008. Some of the biggest stars in world cricket have been part of it. The level of cricket in the IPL is top class and it is a highly competitive tournament, no less than the World Cup.

Dinesh Karthik is one such player who has been part of the IPL for numerous seasons. Karthik plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) currently. He was the captain of KKR for the IPL 2019 and half-season of the IPL 2020 before Eoin Morgan replaced him as the skipper of KKR.

The KKR wicketkeeper-batsman has now picked his all-time IPL best playing XI. It is a very arduous task to pick such a playing XI, but Karthik decided to have a go. He left out some of the biggest names from his team, which will not please the fans.

In a conversation with Cricbuzz, Karthik picked his all-time IPL XI based on the parameters that he should have played at least one game with them.

Karthik picked the opening combination of Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag. He has played with them when he was part of the Delhi Daredevils (now known as Delhi Capitals).

He then picked Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in his team. Karthik played with Virat Kohli when he was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) setup. Karthik played with Rohit Sharma in Mumbai Indians (MI).

The most interesting selection was that he picked himself as the wicket-keeper batsman ahead of MS Dhoni. This is a big call to make but based on his parameters of selection. Although it is an apt call, Karthik has not played with MS Dhoni in any season.

He picked Sunil Narine and Andre Russell for the all-rounder spots. Karthik picked the deadly pace trio of Glenn McGrath, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mitchell Starc. He picked Yuzvendra Chahal as the lone spinner in his team.

Karthik also expressed his regret of not being able to pick MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin in his team, as he did not get a chance of playing with them.

Dinesh Karthik’s all-time IPL XI:

Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma (C), Dinesh Karthik (WK), Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Glenn McGrath, Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell Starc, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Karthik will be looking to fare well with the bat this season

The 35-years old Dinesh Karthik is certainly not getting any younger. His chances of making a comeback into the national team are getting slim. He did not have a good outing with the bat in last year’s IPL. Karthik fans and he will be hoping that he performs at his best this year and drives KKR to their awaited IPL title win.

KKR handed over the captaincy to Eoin Morgan in the middle of the last seasons. So, Dinesh Karthik will have the pressure off his shoulders now and can concentrate on his batting throughout the season.
