Delhi Capitals suffered a big blow to their bowling arsenal after Anrich Nortje tested positive for coronavirus. The IPL 2020 runners-up face a big headache ahead of their upcoming game against Rajasthan Royals.
The match between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals will kick off on Thursday at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. DC pacer Anrich Nortje contracted the virus infection ahead of the clash.
A reliable source close to Delhi Capitals management told the media reporters about Nortje’s current status. Initially, the South African pacer tested negative but all of a sudden, he tested positive.
The source also clarified that the Proteas international tested positive while undergoing quarantine. Nortje’s current condition means that he will have to skip the next few games.
Shockingly, there is another major problem for the franchise because another star pacer Kagiso Rabada was in close contact with Anrich Nortje in flight on their trip to India.
Nortje’s absence will surely be felt by Delhi Capitals. The right-arm quick was one of the reasons why Delhi Capitals made it into the finals against the defending champions in IPL 2020.
Nortje did not play first game
The South African pacer did not play the opening game against Chennai Super Kings. DC’s new captain Rishabh Pant decided to use Avesh Khan and Chris Woakes as his front line seam bowlers. If Rabada also misses out, then it would be a major setback for Delhi Capitals.
They may lose both their main weapons who played extremely well last year. Anrich Nortje played 16 games for Delhi Capitals where he took 22 wickets to his name. On the other hand, Kagiso Rabada played 17 games for the franchise last season. The South African pacer accounted for 30 dismissals.
Bad news for Delhi Capitals
