The Red Devils have found it extremely difficult to sign a new center-back this summer as another defender has rejected a move to the Old Trafford.
With less than five hours left in the transfer market, Manchester United are eager to add a center-back in their ranks. But life is not all that easy for Mourinho right now as another defender has rejected United’s offer.
Godin Rejects United:
Sky Sports earlier reported that Manchester United have asked Atletico Madrid about the availability of Diego Godin. It has now been revealed by the Sky Sports reporter, Gianluca di Marzio, that the Red Devils were ready to pay the Uruguayan’s release clause of €25m.
But both Atletico Madrid and Diego Godin have rejected the possibility of the transfer, according to Sky Sports. The 32-year old will be the club’s captain this season and wants to continue working with them with no intentions to leave. Godin has reportedly rejected a €9m-per-season offered by United in order to stay at Madrid.
Godin is the new addition to the list of center-backs Manchester United have failed to sign this season. The Red Devils pushed really hard for the transfer of Harry Maguire from Leicester City, only for the Foxes to reject all the bids below €75m. United then tried to peruse, Bayern’s Jerome Boateng, Barca’s Yerry Mina, and Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld but could not finalize the move with any one of them.
The Atletico Madrid defender has played more than 300 games for the club. He was one of the best defenders in the World Cup as he led Uruguay to the quarter-finals. Godin was also named in the World Cup’s Dream Team.

Manchester United will face Leicester City in their first Premier League game on Friday. While Atletico will start their season on 16th August with a European Super Cup game against Real Madrid.
It is not really surprising to see Diego Godin reject Manchester United to stay at Atletico Madrid. The Uruguayan is the captain of a club where is a crucial part of their defense. And with all due respect to United and Mourinho, why would he join a club which seems to be heading nowhere?
