The Premier League giants are looking to bring in reinforcements next summer and thus have targeted a Bundesliga star, but it looks like things aren’t going their way.
The Bundesliga side took the German top tier by storm last season, finishing in an unprecedented second in the German league. RB Leipzig went on to give Bayern Munich a run for their money and nearly pull off a Leicester City, given the fact that they were only promoted for the first time in their history after the 2015/16 Bundesliga 2 season. Thanks to an army of supremely talented players, who are now being chased by the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid and many more.
The likes of Dayot Upamecano, Naby Keita, Timo Werner, Emil Forsberg and many others, all made the headlines with Keita leaving for Liverpool at the end of the current season. Meanwhile, star striker Timo Werner has been targeted by Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and other giants after the young German international. But, the club has tried to keep their star players amid serious interest from Europe and done so brilliantly.
However, while they may be potentially open to selling the likes of Timo Werner and even Dayot Upamecano for hundreds of millions, the club has put their foot down when it comes to Emil Forsberg, with Director of Sport Ralf Rangnick being quoted on the subject. Forsberg has been the target of many clubs, including the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Juventus, AC Milan and many others. A move away beckoned during last summer and even the winter transfer windows but nothing materlized.
In an interview with MDR [via Goal.com], the Leipzig man went on to say “In recent months, I’ve said many times we will keep all the top performers, apart from Naby Keita. For me, Emil Forsberg is one of the top performers, so I don’t think for a second that Emil could leave the club. You can ask me 10 more times, but my answer will always be the same. If it’s up to me, Emil stays. And the club has supported me over the last six years. So, he’ll play here next year.”
Emil Forsberg's season by numbers for RB Leipzig:
93 chances created

It’s no surprise why the German side is so keen on keeping the 26-year-old Swedish international, especially given the fact that, last season was one of the best for Forsberg. The Swede was Leipzig’s creator in chief with 22 assists solely in the Bundesliga, chipping in with eight goals as well. But it’s not just his attacking skills that RB Leipzig value so much and while Forsberg has struggled to recapture his form this season, he’s still managed to average 1.1 tackles a game with an 80% passing accuracy and 1.8 key passes a game, according to Whoscored.com.
A highly talented playmaker, Emil Forsberg would make a brilliant replacement for Arsenal’s Santi Carzola, but that’s just me. The 26-year-old has time under his belt and while Arsenal does not need another attacking midfielder, the Spaniard is 32 years old and not getting any younger. Forsberg, on the other hand, would prove to be a bargain buy given his form this season, but could also be a rather risky buy given his form this season.
