Chelsea transfer news: This summer the transfer headlines for Chelsea were grabbed by Romelu Lukaku. However, the transfer of Sevilla’s Jules Kounde was very well publicly highlighted. The Blues wanted to sign the Frenchman but they could not agree on a fees with the Spanish side.
The player himself wanted to join Chelsea and he had even asked Sevilla to accept the offer from the Blues. Even Thomas Tuchel revealed that Chelsea did indeed tried to sign the Frenchman this summer.
Tuchel did promote Trevoh Chalobah to add more defensive cover to his side. However, that does not negate the fact that the Blues will need defensive reinforcements in the coming years. Thus, now they have switched attention to a Serie A defender.
Chelsea transfer news: Thomas Tuchel wants Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt?
According to Binaconero, the Blues are courting a move for Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt now. Even Italian news outlet Calicomercato has also reported the same. This indicates that Thomas Tuchel is very keen on signing the 22-year-old.
The Dutchman currently plays for Juventus in Serie A. Chelsea and the Turin giants are in the same group of the Champions League as well. This will give them a good opportunity to further scout him. However, Juventus do not intend to sell their prized asset.
De Ligt joined the Binaconeri in 2019 for a fee of €75 million. The former Ajax captain wasn’t able to hit the same heights he did at in Holland but he has been improving. Thus, Juventus want to keep him at the club as he seen as one for the future.
Juventus to receive offer from Chelsea for De Ligt?
The Blues are looking to offer Timo Werner plus €18m for the Dutchman. However, if Juventus reject this offer, Chelsea will still pursue his signature.
According to tranfermarkt, Werner is valued at around €54m while De Ligt is valued at around €70m. Thus on paper, the offer from the Blues seems reasonable. However, it is unlikely that Juventus will accept this offer given Werner’s form in recent times.
Why Chelsea need a new centre back
Thiago Silva will turn 37 next week. He will no longer be at his best. It is clear that he is past his prime. César Azpilicueta is also in his prime. But in a a few years he will be on the wrong sides of thirties.
Antonio Rudiger has quite a few good years left in him. However, he is currently stalling on signing a new contract. The German has just one year on his current contract as well. The likes of PSG, Juventus and Real Madrid have shown interest in him. Thus there is a need to sign a new centre back.
While De Ligt has already shown leadership qualities early in his career. He was the captain of a young Ajax team that managed to reach the semi finals of the Champions League a few years ago.
12th Man Opinion
Chelsea fans will be extremely delighted with this news. De Ligt will certainly be a very strong addition to the club. He can learn from the likes of Azpilicueta and Silva as well. The Dutchman is the kind of player there club would want to be linked with.
