Chelsea to target France’s World Cup star if Eden Hazard joins Real Madrid

The Blues have decided to think about the life after their star man Eden Hazard and have shortlisted Nabil Fekir as a potential replacement.

Real Madrid’s decision to not target Neymar or Kylian Mbappe from PSG has taken them Stamford Bridge. Los Blancos are reportedly ready to offer €190m for Chelsea’s Eden Hazard as Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement. Chelsea are eager to keep their main man as they look to strengthen the squad under newly appointed manager Maurizio Sarri.

But Hazard is keen to start a new challenge in Madrid. According to the reports in Sport, Chelsea has thus decided to target World Cup winner Nabil Fekir as a replacement.

Nabil Fekir to replace Hazard:

Lyon winger set the stage on fire in the 2017-18 season with 18 goals and 8 assists. Fekir also made 6 substitute appearances in France’s World Cup-winning campaign. Liverpool was close to signing the Frenchman last month but the move broke down at the last moment.

Liverpool’s failed bid and Hazard’s looming departure has now opened the doors for Chelsea. Fekir’s ability to play as both attacking midfielder and as a winger will be a huge boost for the Blues who are uncertain about their attacking trident for the next season.

Eden Hazard, on the other hand, is looking for a move to the Spanish capital with a deal similar to PSG’s deal for Neymar Jr. Chelsea will look to use the money from Hazard’s transfer to rebuild their squad under Sarri. The Italian tactician will also have to find a new goalkeeper for the coming season as Thibaut Courtois is also set to follow Eden Hazard at Real Madrid. Fekir is not expected to cost much and the Blues can use the rest of the money as needed by Sarri.

Chelsea’s preseason will start with the games against Inter and Arsenal before they face Manchester City in FA Community Shield.

Author’s Take:

Losing Eden Hazard would be a big loss for the Blues, but at the same time, the signing of a 25-year old French sensation could be a great transfer for the club’s future. Chelsea needs to sort their transfer business as soon as possible, as they are the only team who are yet to find a perfect squad out of all the title contenders.
