Chelsea To Step Up Bid For Bundesliga star After Being Spotted In London

The Blues are prepared to re-ignite their chase for Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey’s signature in this summer transfer window.

Leon Bailey has made a massive impact for Leverkusen this season scoring nine times in 30 appearances in his breakthrough season at the BayArena. His incredible outings caught the eye of many top suitors across the continent and attracted interest from Premier League giants Manchester City and Chelsea.

After finishing outside the top 4, Chelsea could lose some star players in the summer as they lack Champions League football. Bailey is one option for the West London outfit if either Eden Hazard or Willian leaves Stamford Bridge. Pep Guardiola is already preparing to strengthen his title-winning squad and add more firepower to his attack but it seems like the Premier League champions are looking at alternatives apart from Bailey.

Inside News-

According to Metro, Guardiola was keen on bringing Leverkusen star to the Etihad Stadium but with Manchester City closing in on Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City, Chelsea is now favorites to sign the 20-year-old Bailey.

What fueled the speculation even further was that Bailey was spotted in London last week taking in the sights at the English capital. Chelsea is now eager to land one of Europe’s talented youngsters to bolster their squad for next campaign as Bailey is also interested in playing football in the Premier League.

Leverkusen currently values the Jamaican born attacker at a fee of £70 million and Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have also been monitoring the 20-year-old over the past few months. But the German outfit of Leverkusen would not want to sell their prized asset to a direct league rival and rather let Bailey leave abroad.

Author’s Take-

Chelsea is now clear frontrunners to sign the Jamaican international but they need to act fast. The only issue is that Leverkusen star is just 20 years old and may take time to adapt in the English League. Chelsea took a gamble with Alvaro Morata last summer with a big money move which backfired.
