The Blues are set to butt in for Napoli superstar Jorginho, who was initially set to join Manchester City.
The transfer window has caught us by surprise with the move for Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus and there are still a few moves that can have a major impact for next season coming from the Serie A. Napoli’s Jorginho has been at the heart of midfield for the Partenopei but is heavily linked with a move away from Napoli this summer window with Premier League suitors monitoring his situation.
English champions Manchester City have been the frontrunners to sign Jorginho as Pep Guardiola seeks a replacement for the aging Fernandinho in midfield. But the Spaniard will face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea who are also keen on Jorginho’s services and are preparing a bid for the 26-year-old.
According to Manchester United Evening News, there have been no solid reports from Napoli claiming that Manchester City has made a bid for Jorginho. And although Guardiola is eager to sign Jorginho, who has reportedly, stated that his heart is set on joining the Premier League giants after agreeing to personal terms with the club a few weeks ago, there is a conflict of interest with the transfer fees with Napoli.
The Italian club value Jorginho at £50 million but City are not willing to shell out more than £35 million on the defensive midfielder. This has ignited interest from Chelsea who is keen to sign a solid midfielder who can strengthen their base and the West London club are trying to hijack a deal from their rivals.
Jorginho’s impressive performances have attracted interest from several suitors and Napoli are not willing to let the Italian international leave for a discounted price.
Chelsea has a habit of making transfers interesting but after Jorginho agreed to personal terms with Manchester City, I don’t think that Chelsea can swoop in for him and get him easily unless they pay a massive amount.
