Chelsea and new manager Maurizio Sarri are reportedly looking for a new defensive midfielder and are still after this Bundesliga star.
The 30-year-old was an archetype Antonio Conte signing and has flourished ever since his move from Juventus. Under Massimiliano Allegri, Pep Guardiola, Jupp Heyneckes and even Carlo Ancelotti the Chilean international has turned into one of the best if not the best defensive midfielders in the world, winning multiple accolades along the way. With Chelsea losing Nemanja Matic and Tiemoue Bakayoko struggling, they’ve returned towards Arturo Vidal.
However, with the Bavarians signing Leon Goretzka on a free-transfer, it looks like Arturo Vidal’s time in the Bundesliga maybe over and Chelsea could swoop in. However, now with former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri replacing Antonio Conte, the Blues’ have re-visited the possibility of signing the former Juventus star.
According to reports from the Express, Chelsea is leading the race for the 30-year-old. And the report from the Daily Mail further adds that if the Stamford Bridge side does have an advantage, as the Bayern Munich are looking to offload the former Juventus star which makes them the prime candidates to sign the Arturo Vidal.
Meanwhile, the 30-year-old Arturo Vidal made his way back to the Bundesliga a year after Antonio Conte left and flourished. Meanwhile, with Bayern Munich agreeing to a deal with Schalke 04’s Leon Goretzka with the German midfielder arriving next season on a free transfer, Arturo Vidal’s time at the club could be up.
While Arturo Vidal certainly won’t be a long-term replacement, the Chilean could become a valuable asset to Maurizio Sarri’s side and may make them a force to be reckoned with again. However, that still leaves Chelsea with the job of finding a long-term replacement, especially if Tiemoue Bakayoko doesn’t manage to re-discover his Monaco title-winning form.
