Conte singles-out Spanish striker Morata after continuously performing below average.
Alvaro Morata has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. With only two goals in 2018, the 25-year-old has been struggling for form in recent games. Scoring the only goal for Chelsea in the 3-1 loss against Tottenham, Morata is fighting for a place in the starting eleven. And things do not look good for the Spaniard.
Morata arrived at Chelsea for a fee of 70 million euros making him their most expensive signing. After leaving Madrid and joining the Blues, the Spaniard made a cracking start to the season. However, a loss of form saw the striker lose his place in the starting line-up. Moreover, the arrival of Olivier Giroud and the dependence on Eden Hazard as a false number 9 has made things worse for Morata.
Reports from The Sun claim that Conte has finally snapped with Morata as the young striker has failed to live up to his price tag. Also, Conte believes that Morata is not fully focused on his football which explains his lack of confidence in front of goal.
The Italian is not expected to stay at Chelsea for much longer. With Chelsea languishing in the fifth spot, the English Champions may be looking for a new replacement already. Having said this, the future for Morata is also uncertain. Reports claim that Real Madrid will be looking for a Morata return come this summer. Bayern Munich has also been linked with the Spanish striker in recent weeks. The Bavarians will be looking for a replacement for Polish striker Robert Lewandowski should he leave the club.
With the World Cup in Russia approaching, Morata is struggling to find a spot on the national team too. Having Iago Aspas and Diego Costa in the team provides tough competition for the Chelsea striker. It will be difficult to find a place for Morata in the current form he is in.
Alvaro Morata is a striker who can make a huge difference on his good days. On his bad days, however, he does not look like half the striker who was signed for a whopping 70 million euros. It was only a matter of time before Conte lost faith in the striker. With his job on the line, it looks like it will either be Giroud or Hazard in the starting line up. Expect to see Morata on the bench in the coming weeks.
