With the transfer window only a few months away, Atletico Madrid reportedly made an offer for striker Alvaro Morata in an attempt to replace Antoine Griezmann, which the Spanish striker duly rejected.
Problems loom in for the Madrid side after getting knocked out in the group stages of the Champions League and the imminent risk of losing their star player Griezmann, who looks to make his way away from the Wanda Metropolitano with Barcelona leading the race to sign the Frenchman.
As a result, the Spanish side is in a bid to replace the forward. As per Spanish outlet Don Balon, Atletico Madrid reportedly held talks with the agent of the Spaniard over a possible move in the summer. The report also claims that the side were willing to offer 88 million for Morata.
Morata not interested in a move back to Spain
The report goes on to state that Morata has declined the offer despite his torrid time at Stamford Bridge. The 25-year-old believes that he can turn it around with the Blues and has made it clear that a move back to Spain is not in the books.
Morata has failed to live up to his price tag after moving to the London side for a record fee. Despite showing glimpses of brilliance at the beginning, the form faded away and injuries have added to the trouble as the Spaniard finds himself down the pecking order for the Blues, with manager Antonio Conte preferring to play Eden Hazard as the false nine.
With the impending risk of losing stars such as Hazard and Courtois, the Blues cannot afford to lose Morata as well, who can be a huge threat when in-form. The star turning down the offer could be the right move with the striker having age on his side to prove his worth at Stamford Bridge.
