Chelsea star makes massive Champions League admission

While the situation at Chelsea is not as rosy as it was early this season, the Blues are still in with a chance to feature in Europe’s premier competition next season.

Four wins in twelve matches. Losses against Newcastle, Bournemouth, and Southampton. This is not the kind of form Champions League aspirants displayed in the previous seasons in England. But with fellow sides also slipping up, Frank Lampard’s Chelsea still remain in the race. They are the front-runners for the final spot with United 6 points adrift of the Londoners. And now the club captain has underlined the importance of the coming weeks for the club’s season.

The words of Chelsea’s Cesar

Cesar Azpilicueta has stressed “We have missed many opportunities to be higher up the table, so we have to learn from that,” Azpilicueta said.“We cannot go back and change the results from the last few games.”

“And now we have three important games in front of us in the Premier League that could define our position in the table. And obviously every point is huge, and hopefully, we can have good games and win them.”

“It’s going to be an important month. But every match is three points to be played for the same way we have been fighting for three points in every other game.”

Author’s Take

As far as the race for the final Champions League spot is concerned, the picture seems more or less clear. Chelsea have a more coherent squad and enough quality to push them over the line. An inconsistent Spurs side and abysmally run United should pose much threat to the Blues.

The Stamford Bridge should be echoing the Champions League anthem next season. If not, Frank Lampard will have to answer some serious questions. Apart from a catastrophic fall off, it is tough to see Chelsea not securing the 4th Premier League spot.
