Chelsea have won the race for the signature of PSV striker Jayden Braaf
Youngsters and Chelsea: A love story that has never quite fitted good enough. Its like two lovers get together, then one of them forgets about the other. And then, they eventually split up in the future. Youngsters have rarely found a spot in Chelsea’s team coming from the youth level, but still, Chelsea uses their scouting systems to sign the best young talent available.
This time, Dutch youth international Jayden Braaf has been the boy acquired by Chelsea. According to his agent, a ‘verbal agreement’ has been reached with the Londoners. Both the Red and the Blue halves of Manchester were also keen on signing the 15-year-old, but Antonio Conte’s side has got his nod.

A number of clubs were keeping tabs on the youngster. Some of these include West Ham, and Ajax, and also powerhouses like Bayern Munich and the Manchester clubs. All this interest was a result of the progress of the wonderkid, who is impressing routinely at both club and international level. And now his uncle cum agent, Stefano van Dulden has revealed that his nephew’s next stop would be Stamford Bridge.
In an interview with The Sun, he said, “We have reached an agreement in principle for Jayden to join Chelsea. But it is a verbal agreement. Nothing has been put in writing.”
Braaf was an Academy graduate of Ajax. He is versatile forward, who can relish in any role in the front line. He is equally adept at either flank and can deputize as a striker as well. Such a versatile player is going to be a good addition even at the youth level.
Braaf is the second youngster to sign for Chelsea this week, first being George Nunn from Crewe Alexandra. But again, we know what is the fate of most youngsters of Chelsea – Numerous loan spells followed by a permanent move away. On the plus side, this season, Christensen has shown the way how the loan spells could actually be a good thing. There have been minutes for youngsters like Ethan Ampadu, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Dujon Sterling. This could be encouraging for the youth at the club. It would be interesting to see whether Braaf can stake a claim in the future, or would he be yet another one to add to the already incredible loan army.
